Poor Poor RX8

I took the names out of the Article for obvious reasons. But poor RX8. Why do people have to be so stupid and drive while drunk. I might actually know the RX8 that wrecked, not the driver or passenger but It might be the Black 8 i've seen around town once in awhile or perhaps the other silver or grey one I can remember what color it was.

I was in the area after the police closed a portion of the road, I didn't know it was another RX8 that was involved though. I didn't see it. IT was already dark and I didn't notice a car, I wasn't really sure why the road was closed at the time. I just know it forced me to find a detour when working.

Police are asking witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.

Police said he was driving south at a high rate of speed on Hooper Avenue and after crossing Drum Point Road, where the roadway is curved, he lost control of the 2005 Mazda RX8, according to a release by the Brick Traffic Safety Unit, which is investigating.

He tried to regain control of the Mazda, which had started to spin when it hit a curb and began flipping over, police said. The car came to rest in a yard on Atrium Drive.

The sole passenger, A WOMAN, 27 of Brick, suffered a serious injury to her right arm and was first treated at the scene by Community First Aid Squad and Brick Township Police EMS. She was taken to Drum Point Road Elementary School where she was then transported by MONOC helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Hooper Avenue was closed for about 2 1/2 hours. Emergency responders were assisted by the Pioneer Hose and Breton Woods fire companies.

Patrolman Paul Catalina charged the driver with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, reckless driving, careless driving and failing to maintain a lane of travel.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact Sgt. Donald Ling or Officer Jay Lampiasi of the Traffic Safety Unit at (732) 262-1140.

no need to protect a drunk driver

Its Chey 09-03-2008 08:56 AM

I believe no drunk driver should be protected. I myself am guilty of driving while intoxicated. I however, do not partake in such activities any longer. I learned a hard lesson when a close friend of mine was killed by a 16 year old drunk girl New years eve 06/07. He text me "Happy New Year Buddy, I love You" at 12:18 am. Pronounced dead at 12:40. Its been a huge deal here in Richmond, VA. I am fortunate to have hurt neither myself nor anyone else but, I strongly urge everyone to lock a cab service number in your phone. Or, such as we have
804-222-much here that will take you home for free. You and your car home for only $25.
Long live Wes Taylor in my heart and memories. He was a big man, red beard, shaved head and a hug for every person he knew. A bear hug, back cracking I tell ya. He was the guy who called every number in his phone christmas eve and morning and sang to them "Wes wishes you a merry christmas...." Ironically, he was a bartender. He drove me home many nights after work.
Thanks for reading, I miss him if you couldn't tell........

yeah there was a kid who graduated from my hs and would brag about driving home drunk at night...two summers ago on my way to work I passed his car completely crushed by an semi he hit head on in the wrong lane. Luckily he did not hurt the driver of the semi or anyone else.

I just cant understand how people can be so careless with their lives. If it doesn't bother you to die, at least think of the impact it will have on others. Call a cab, friend, family...just don't drink and drive.

Its Chey, glad you are making better choices, but I wish it didn't come at such a price. I know how losing a close friend feels.

anytime I know about my friends going out to a party or something I tell them, regardless of the time, distance, or whatnot, give me a call if you need a ride, regardless of how much you had to drink.

Fortunatly at least one of my friends made that choice, unfortunatly for me, they made that choice at 3:30 in the morning when I was in bed. But i didn't complain they gave me the address and I drove the 45 minutes to go get them and bring em home.

even if i just scratched a fender i'd be pretty upset.
