No beach; has liquor, though!

RX-GR8 01-29-2006 10:56 PM

has a beach small though.

DukeGG1 01-30-2006 10:30 AM

When the "big one" hits, Somers Point WILL be beachfront!

Dinhx8 01-30-2006 12:38 PM

i drove up from DC last week on business, and stayed at the Downtown Marriot at 12th and Market. Drove the Rex, and it was a nice drive. Didnt' let the valets park the 8, so did the self park thing in a nice garage across the street on Filbert. I must say there are some big potholes in Philly though. Manholes are really low also. And whats with all the bags and debris flying everywhere? i guess it was windy.

All in all, had a nice time. Philly's cool.

ha, i did drive in at night, around midnight to be exact, and seriously, i felt like an M1 tank on a mine field dodging huge potholes, and bags and leaves, and bottles rollin on the streets. not sure where the leaves came from. last time i check fall ended a few months ago

RX-GR8 01-30-2006 01:45 PM

the sanitation department apparently takes most of the week off.

Irish_in_a_RX8 01-30-2006 04:57 PM

Wheres the bathrooms in this lounge? :)

eastaznboi 01-30-2006 10:20 PM

i've lived around philly all my life and now that i have my 8, i try to avoid going to the city as much as i can, unless i can hitch a ride in my gf's beater :hahano: had a prelude with nice rims prior to the 8, it fought against the philly streets, and the streets won

Philly streets ALWAYS win! I have problems dodging stones that trucks throw off on the Schuykill x-way...

gotta love the alternating one way streets in center city too.

Darkrose 02-01-2006 02:01 PM

Whenever I go into Philly (or Trenton for that matter), I take my beater car.

DukeGG1 02-01-2006 09:14 PM

Anyone going to the Auto Show next week?

SilverStreak 02-02-2006 02:31 PM

If I get to the Auto Show it will probably be this Sunday, got other plans this Saturday and next weekend.

The reason for all of our potholes, we don't have enough snow to fill them in this year.

LOL, shhhhhh, don't jinx it!

Then again, I swear I can feel the tread melting off my snow tires :(

eastaznboi 02-02-2006 09:12 PM

it's been great without the snow, hope it stays that way

First weekend in March: I'll be flying to London & wont get out of JFK!

SilverStreak 02-03-2006 04:51 PM

I travel around the state a lot for work, I sure have loved not dealing with snow. Watching my snow tires melt is just fine by me. Maybe if we think snow (like the 96 Blizzard) we can ward it off. Everyone together now...wish for snow to keep it away.

On the other hand global warming could mean we get to run our summer tires year round!

Dogpound48 02-06-2006 08:13 AM

Has anyone made it to the car show yet? I'm planning on going this afternoon.

snowrydr01 02-06-2006 10:10 AM

anyone get to the carshow? Is the concept version 2 mazdaspeed 8 there? If anyone is going after reading this get some pics if it is.

Im going around dinner time. I plan to take some Mazda pix. I'll post anything interesting.

Dogpound48 02-06-2006 08:35 PM

Went to the car show this afternoon and came away thinking it was pretty lame. The Mazda section had nothing special. It only had 1 2005 white Rx8. The tuner salon contained another Rx8. There were barely any concept vehicles by any of the manufacturers.

I agree. Only one 8, a white, at that. I asked why the 8 wasnt being displayed more & the Mazda rep said, "Well, it's the 3s & 6s that sell!"

I'll try to add a few pix.

Sorry the mod pix is so dark, the lightning wasnt too good. Whose 8 is that anyway?

That can't be done as easily and changes the entire dynamics of going.

MadRonin 02-08-2006 10:03 AM

I went to the auto show on Sunday and was pretty dissapointed. Mazda's display sucked. They had the CX-7 and that's about it. The rep there tried to hard sell me on the CX-7. When I told him I wasn't interested, he asked me why. I told him it didn't have a stick, and it wasn't a rotary. He said "what about the RX-8?" I told him I had one and he looked at me funny (I'm a big guy).

So I sat in the white RX-8 and my buddy made fun of me saying "You have one!" (that made the rep take notice). I responded that I hadn't sat in mine today and just had to get my fix. :)

The rest was just as bland. I wanted to see the Aston Martin DB9, and all they had was the Volante and the Vanqusih. I was also looking forward to seeing the IS 350, but I had to wait forever to actually sit in one.

<RANT> I waited for nearly ten minutes while a mother let her two children (both under the age of ten) climb in and out and around a Lexus IS 350 - she never got in the car. At the adjacent IS, there was a family from Russia having salt talks on the IS vs the father's BMW. That's fine and great, just look at the damn car, sit in it, get out and go someplace else to talk about it!

Also, the last time I checked, most five year-olds did not have sufficient income to purchase a BMW 5 series. I, OTOH, do. So why the f$&k would you let your five year old sit in a BMW 5 series (the driver's seat, no less) while you're off looking at Nissans???

Parents, the auto show is NOT an expensive playground for your kids. Please do not let them climb in and around in the places where their little limbs and appendages could easily get caught in the various heavy doors and hatches. Not to mention, let them cause damage to said expensive vehicles, themselves.

Christ, people can be really, really stupid. </RANT>

DukeGG1 02-08-2006 10:32 AM

When I was there Mon night, two 20-ish guys were in the Aston-Martin "compound" drinking slurpees all around the cars! Where was the A-M rep? How did they get in there? And why were they allowed to be sloshing their icees by the cars?
I wasnt impressed with the Mazda reps in the least, either, MR. Since I love the 8 so much, I felt like I should've been there selling it! (And I wouldnt have had the white on display either!)

There were people in the Aston Martin area on Sunday, too. I think they were allowing certain people to come in and look at the cars, but I didn't see anyone in any of the AMs.

I agree totally about not having the white 8 there. Why not a Shinka at least, or even better, a Mazdaspeed? Something that says "Hey look at us!"

Was it me, or did Subaru not have any regular STIs at their display? I saw some of the tuners, but I looked all around for an STI to sit in and couldn't find one.

I thought I saw one Mon night, but Im not sure. Wasnt looking for one because Ive been in one before. (I was checking out the Charger SRT8, though). I'll ask my daughter's boyfriend-he would have noticed. He manages a car detailing shop here in Jersey & was checking everything out.

RacerXXX 03-10-2006 09:25 AM

Hey, RX-Gr8, good to see you lurking around! I think all our Philly area posts have been about meets lately. I all but stopped posting in the "spotted you.." because no one I spot is ever here. It can be lonely being an 8 owner!
