PA Emission Inspection - Coming from Out of State

Moving to PA soon, and looking for some real life answers.

How are PA inspections? I see the legal rules, but I know that adherence to the legal statute can vary from state to state, county to county. One of the reasons I am avoiding living in NJ like the plague.

I see that the counties I am targeting are part of the 42 "Visual emissions check only". Would I be swapping the cat onto my 8 every year for a day? Or is it really something that they wouldn't notice? Or care about?

Reading this:

What is a Visual Anti-Tampering Check?
The Visual Anti-Tampering Check is a visual inspection for the presence of emission
control components that were installed on a vehicle by the manufacturer.

How is a Visual Anti-Tampering Check performed?
A certified technician will look for the presence of the following emission control devices:
• Catalytic converter,
• Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve,
• Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve,
• Fuel inlet restrictor,
• Air pump, and
• Evaporative control system components such as vapor canisters and lines
I'm mildly curious if a mechanic would actually be able to find anything other than the cat/midpipe on a rotary. :eyetwitch:

If it's something to actually pay attention to, it another mark against the 8. And I'd rather go to one of the ODB2 inspection counties.

honestly here it depends on the county and garage, i in schuylkill county and they don't ever look at it unless an exhaust leak or something is heard

btw i still have my cat in my garage if ya ever need to borrow it for some reason but that is doubtful

Thanks, but unnecessary. When the dealer replaced my failed cat, I pulled it off about 5,000 miles later to put on the midpipe, and have kept it since, expecting to need it again some day.

np. you probably wont ever need it here unless you go to a chain garage for the inspection
