nyc freezing over!
 

Just askin the nyc guys how long you let the car warm up for in these cold days. Do u just let it sit or rev it a few times, and also as far as oil goes my friend said he used to put in a little bit every other fill up? is that good for the car or too much oil?

i let mine warm up for 5-10 minutes and then just drive easy until the temp gauge is near the middle. just check the oil after every fill up or so and add as necessary

from experience so far the car takes about 4-8 minutes to warm up depending on how cold the motor actually got. when it is really cold you can't rev too hard, as the motor gets warmer ive noticed you can rev it harder. I only do real quick spot revs and let it sit and warm up on its own.

now if you arent affraid of flooding it then you can just turn on and go....but you better make sure it doesnt stall.

as far as the oil consumption....it is normal and you should basically periodically check your oil anyway....but especially w/the 8 since it injects oil into the motor so oil consumption, unlike PISTONS having extra oil consumption, is actually normal for a rotary....

But then again as someone may say on here, it has been discussed so use the search function (whether it has or hasn't been) because there is tons of great information on thiis site not for nothing.

i wait about a minute give or take.....i dont hit it till its in the middle though....the car warms up quicker under load......just dont stall it while its cold

My friends CD player froze (literally) 6AM on the way to class and wouldn't play. We left our energy drinks in the car (we were going to get back within 2 hours after class anyways) and they froze :( .

I park mine on the street on the weekends and garage it during the workweek. This morning when I started up to take it to the garage on the way to work it was idling at close to 2000 rpm. I let it sit for 2-3 mins (was running late) and drove off. The car definitely felt like it wasn't happy to be driving and I kept it under 3k rpm just to be on the safe side. I suppose I'm crazy for thinking I need to find a heated garage to store my baby in :)

On really cold days, I start the car and wait for the revs to drop to 1500rpm. It usually takes 1-3 mins. Then I take off slow and easy and keep the revs below 4000rpm, until the temp guage rises beyond a third.

Any one have a remote start installed? Any hook ups?

Putting in oil every other fill up is not a good thing. You need to measure it first.

You won't use much oil in the winter as you are not using high RPM's

Many people can go well over 1000 miles before adding oil. Learn your car. It will be different for winter and summer consumption.

Fellas, DO NOT ADD OIL WITHOUT CHECKING THE LEVEL!!!!!! and please do change it at or before the 3k miles!

I used to sit there wasting gas until the needle was past the first line, I've found its pointless. Just let it run for a minute and drive, just dont rev it up to redline untill its fully warmed up to normal operating temp and you should be fine.
I believe the reason for this is the emissions strategy regarding accelerated warm up. Oil flow is cut to the rotors in order to reach normal temp quicker. Most shops delete this when rebuilding(I did on my FD). I want oil on my rotors at all times, thank you! ;)
dont worry this is the way they have run since '86 so youre not damaging anything unless you start up and RACE it out of the parking spot!
