Found this on the web site of a NJ Laywer. Which is what I thought was true.
Tinted windows are illegal unless approved for a medical reason. Moreover, tinted windows are sufficient legal basis for the police to stop a car. |
a old buddy of mine that was a detective told me yrs ago
they can pull you over for not having 4 screws on the damn license plates. I usually dont believe that kind of stuff, but he was serious and im sure its somewhere in that nj law book from what he said. but to answer your question I never had a doubt in my mind its wasnt illegal(a reason)and would get pulled over by a lonely or quite town cop.like my town |
The only secondary offense is using your self phone while driving, and commiting another offense. Tinted windows is enough probable cause for a police officer to stop you.

You could have tint but not in the front windows!

anything is legal for the back, but nothing in the front
and yes, you can get pulled over for tinting, they usually just don't care enough. And they probably target people with very dark front tints first, I have 35% on my front windows and haven't gotten any attention |
i got 20 on mine and still no issues

I had almost limo tint on my black 8, only got 1 ticket but it was because I was speeding on the parkway....
I'm getting my white car done real soon, dont know how dark to go on a white car... it was easy on a black... |
