Mazda Issues Recall on RX8 Pls read in MD

All,

I'm not a forum junkie, maybe this will be my only post but news you should know... so my wife takes the RX in for oil change, the svc mgr advised we needed a spark plug change, catalytic converter possibly bad etc ( this was without the 300.00 they wanted to charge her to install new wipers?! is this guy on crack!) so...we called a friend that works at another Mazda dealer and he advised us 2 MONTHS AGO, NOT to get the work done because they knew Mazda was about to issue a recall for these same components and of course service and repair at no charge..SO...we waited.. now the engine light came on this week, my wife calls the Mazda dealership AGAIN, the same D%#$ tells her she needs the same repairs to the tuune of 800 dollars?!, this was Wednesday she called...guess what..the notice of recall came in the mail yesterday. IF you have gottent his repair within the last 6 months I would STRONGLY suggest you get your money back, if you had it done within the last 60 days I would suggest you throw a fit at the dealership that did the repairs because they KNEW about this BEFORE the actual recall was issued. DO NOT (my advice only) go for service ANY ( wink wink) Mazda dealership located on Route 1 in Belair in MD...thats the best I can say about the dealership without naming names..hope this helps you...no wonder the OEM's are slumping in car sales...its the treatment you get at the dealerships thats deploreable...and trust me on this..I work for an OEM and I bought foreign, guess theyre no better after all..anyways hope this helps, like I said in the beginning I may not post again, but feel free to try and contact me for further info..OR if anybody is interested in getting a GM product..I can help you with that...till then rock stay strong..BTW usually on forums people indicate what they have.. me..04 RX8, Harleys (2) Hayabusa, after all I prefer 2 wheels anyways..brought to you by Archangel from Lycan SportRyderz Baltimore MD

Got our recall notice yesterday, will be checking the VIN to see if I fall in the range listed. Best case scenario, plugs get replaced. Worst case scenario, whole new engine! I'm keeping a happy thought.

I just had my car in for an oil change and they didn't try to rip me off at all. I have to say, with all the horror stories I'm hearing out there, I feel I should share that I've had nothing but great service at our dealership. We bought our '06 Shinka 8 at Grappone Mazda in Concord. Both the sales staff and service department have been fantastic! I cannot say enough good about them! Grappone is family-owned, and the owners, Mr. & Mrs. Grappone, are at the dealership all the time. They are both elderly, and yet they make their presence well-known. They are both very business-minded with great senses of humor! I've enjoyed talking to them both.

My car will be going in about two weeks from now. Halloween evening I popped in a CD that my son's friend had brought with him. Since it was dark, I didn't see the condition of the CD. As soon as it was in the player tried to read it and then the whole unit shut down. I turned it back on and it tried again to read the CD, then shut down. I then started turning it on and hitting the Eject button real quick, trying to the CD to pop out. It was locked up. I couldn't get the player to respond at all, I couldn't even switch to another CD. (The player was fully loaded, with 6 CDs.) I called the service department and spoke to the service manager, Ken. He said that there was no quick fix - like the old paper clip to open the door on the computer trick - and that I was probably going to need a new unit. So I set up an appointment for the enxt day. They tried to take the CD out briefly, but the guy working on it said since it was a new car, he really didn't want to mess with it much and the best thing was to get a new unit. I talked to Ken about my concerns surrounding the installation of a new unit. My husband had told me that dealerships are famous for scuffing and scratching up the dashboard when installing parts. Ken assured me that they aren't that type of dealership. If there is anything wrong I'm to bring the car back and the damaged part will be replaced at dealer cost. The incentive to do it right the first time is this: if anything is damaged during installation, not only does the dealership absorb the cost of replacing the damaged part, but the installer has to install it off-the-clock, and absorbs the cost of labor.

I know this doesn't help the people outside of New England, and maybe not even some who are in New England, but if you are in New Hampshire, Northern MA, or are so unhappy with the service at your local dealership that you're willing to travel, then Grappone Mazda on Rte. 3A in Concord, NH is excellent!
