Massachusetts RX-8 Club!

How many RX-8 folks are still driving theirs around here? I haven't seen another 8 on the road in quite some time. Mine is hibernating at the moment, but as soon as the salt is off the roads, I'll bring it back out and have fun winding it up to the beep again :-).

I live in the Natick/Wellesley area. Speedieone - did you attend DGRR in 2017 in a red R3?
#279
I did indeed attend DGRR in 2017 in my red R3. Where you there? It was a fun time and the first long road trip in the car. Last spring my son and I drove down to road Atlanta to watch friends race. It’s a great car for long road trips although the fuel costs are admittedly high. Best we saw was 23 mpg but the average was close to twenty.

Hi Lancifer. I drive a 2004 Winning Blue Mazda Rx8 GT. I noticed your location is Chelsea, MA, mine is Wilmington, MA. How do I join the group? The link is broken.
Thanks,
Chad

Moving on
before I put her on Craigslist thought I’d mention it here. We are moving South and the son is staying up north. In college so the RX8 is more than he can afford to maintain or put fuel in. Anyway we bought him a Subaru and I’m selling the 8. 2004 Nordic Green. Leather interior, all stock except the Tein coil overs. New Mazda remanufactured engine in Feb 2015. Maybe 30k miles on it since then. New snow tires, extra 6 speed tranny, runs and drives nice...5000 or best offer. PM me if interested. He will be home with it next weekend. In Chicopee MA. Was a southern car so very little rust.

Hello MA RX-8 owners. Anyone still around? I'm in Boston (Metro West suburbs). Last weekend had a nice drive in south central MA (Douglas, MA) and RI (Burrillville).

I have driven that area and it is a nice drive. I do most of mine in the Berkshires as I like the lack of traffic and twisting roads. One of my favorite rides is Route 116 from South Deerfield to Route 112 in Ashfield. I just put my 2010 R3 into winter storage last weekend.

I see this thread coming to life again! I am currently living in Sterling MA with my 2010 Aurora Blue R3
I look forward to future events with you all.
I haven't yet been to the new track in Palmer but it would be nice to check out.

Let's keep in touch and add to our membership. What we did with the regional Motorcycle Sport Tour Association (https://ridemsta.com/ which was the former Honda Sport Touring Association HSTA group) this year (during COVID-19), we hosted impromptu rides (with a pre-planned route) with an outside lunch stop at a restaurant (with take out). We could do the same for this group (even a bring your own lunch / picnic stop). We could work this Winter on planning routes around NE.

I think we'll end up with several START rallying points around S New England. If we choose 3 for 2021, what other 2 are good to encompass all of our members? I'd like to maximize the best roads and stop points for scenery, lunch, breaks, and gas! for our rallies.

Palmer Motorsports is a good destination. It is a private racetrack so we would need to schedule a visit or tag along with one of the clubs that has track rights. I might suggest a ride to Lime Rock Park as well. Its a public racetrack so we could attend one of their open events or a club event. For a casual meet up Kimbal's in Lancaster is a pretty good central MA location.

I agree with Lime Rock as well. I was planning on doing one of the SCCA "car control clinics" at lime rock in the spring which is split between the skid pad and autocross track. I figured since I've only owed the 8 for 6 months it would be beneficial to learn the car in a safe environment before I go on track.

Great clinic to do. I did it many years ago when they called it the defensive driving course. When I went Dodge was the sponsor and we drove a Viper (felt like it was trying to kill me and I hated it). My wife did it it a few years later when Mazda was the sponsor and she got to drive an RX-8 R3. She liked the car so much she recommended that I look at them when I wanted a fun weekend car four years ago. Now I own one and smile every weekend.
