looking for advice. rx8 vs insurance....

so on may 13th my rx8 was involved in a hit and run while parked. drier was caught and turns out he was in the revoked list, car wasnt his and the owner had taken the car off the policy a month earlier...
so i go through my insurance to get the car fixed. ins guy comes sees the car comes to the conclusion that the car is worth more than the cost to fix so tells the shop to fix it and that theyll pay for any extra parts not in the original estimate.
so they mail me a check parts are order and waited on for. shop gets parts starts prepping them while the car is disassembled, calls the insurance and says that places where the ins. said to order parts from dont have and that they cost xx more. insurance then tells him that its going to costs too much that theyre going to total the car.
so now i have an undrivable car, parts that cant be returned and im about to call the insurance to see what theyre "plan" is...

cliffs:car is hit, insurance gives estimate says is going to fix it, parts are ordered/prepped for paint, shop gives insurance list of extra items that need to be ordered, now insurance says its too much to fix and theyre going to total the car...

if no money has come out of your pocket. Don't sweat it. The insurance will always go with the cheaper option for them. In most totaled cases they give you the value of the car. So it probably wont be all bad I'd recommend you remove any mods, wheels or w\e. and Get another one.

^ Money has come out of his pocket . . . sort of. He got a check from the insurance company and bought the parts.

That's a conundrum. How much is the additional cost for parts?

You need to talk to the insurance company and explain that the parts cannot be returned. You may need a lawyer because it sounds like a mess.

In the future, never take the money from the insurance company. Let the shop deal with them directly.

EDIT: Fight like hell to get the car fixed as long as there's no frame damage. Chances are the insurance company is basing their decision on auction pricing and you'll never find a comparable car with a check for that amount. If it's relatively new you may not even get enough $$$ to pay off your note.

Did you buy parts yourself with from the check the insurance company sent you?
