Who all is from the DC metro? I'm thinking I am going to put my deposit down soon after tomorrow (even though my friends really are pulling for me to get a Z instead). Any ideas on dealerships? anyone have one in the region they have had previous favourable experience with? I was thinking I want to aviod DarCars, I hear they are horrible. Was thinking about a dealership in the Vienna, VA or Arlington area.

My buddy's dad is the owner of the Heritage dealerships in the White Marsh/Bel Air areas. I have bought four cars from them, two mazdas. Personally I think the dealers do a great job and dont push you in any way. If you are up for the hour drive from DC go for it. Cause then you get to drive the rx-8 all the way home ;)

I've been buying oil filters for my RX-7 and Protege from them the whole past year :) (close to where i work)

very stupid question, the $1000 deposit will count toward the payment for the car right? (I know it's silly, but I've never put down a deposit for a pre-order car you know :p )

yes it does. The $1000 goes right towards the car.

I almost talked Tray Rodgers (manager) into a $500 deposit, but since its transferable I decided it wasn't worth arguing anymore. He and his boss had just set out their guidelines for pre-orders earlier that morning and was thinking he could do $500 if he talked it over with him (he was in a meeting and would have required calling me back). The reason they won't do refundable is sitting in the front lot - an orange mazdaspeed protege someone reneged on.

I have mine on order from Fitzgerald Auto Mall in Frederick, about 40 miles from DC (fitzmall.com), at sticker. I think their first 3 allotments of 2 each are spoken for but you can check if interested. I've done one event with the DC Mazda Sportscar club - they are a decent group. Miatas and RX-7s.

Capitol Lincoln-Mercury-Mazda in Richmond had their first RX-8 pre-ordered today (mine!!!) so if anyone gets desperate in the DC area, take a trip down here as I doubt they're going to reach their alotment in the immediate future. Dwayne Massenburg was the salesman who helped me. He was really nice, and I'm getting MSRP, and deposit was $500, fully refundable.

Ordered mine from Brown's Mazda in Alexandria VA. Considered either Blue or Black. Finally decided to go with the Black to match it's older brother at home, 1985 RX7 with over 256,000. (It's been my only car since driving away from the dealership September 9, 1985. Oringinal engine/rotor :D)

I think the wait for the 8 is going to be a lot tougher than I thought. I want it yesterday!!

That is a beautiful 1985 RX7. It looks just like my 1981 RX7 (GSL, Brilliant Black, red leather interior, bought brand new). I finally sold it last September to make room for my RX8.

I ordered my RX8 from Congressional Mazda in Rockville on 1/10/03, so I'll be in the first allocation. I want mine yesterday too. I really miss the feel of a rotary engine.

I had stopped in at Darcars in Silver Spring but those guys didn't have a clue about how to preorder the RX8. I have had nothing but trouble with those guys.

Congressional Mazda was quite easy to deal with. When I first spoke with the Mazda sales manager and told him I was signed up for an RX8 preorder (through the Mazda web site), he said "fine, come on in." Before I said any thing else, he said they will be charging me only straight MSRP, "none of this markup stuff". MSRP is the way my order is written up.

They didn't seem to have special forms for the preorder. They just used the normal Mazda order forms, basically to gather my information. I had a printout from the Mazda pre-order web site which they attached to this form. They were going to send in the order by 1/13/03, the first allocation deadline. I am #2 of their allocation of 3.

The one trouble I have had with them is with email. They never respond. This has caused a lot of frustration for me.

A couple weeks earlier I had received the Mazda email to test drive the Mazda 6. About a week later, Brown's Alexandria emailed me to remind me about the test drive offer. Then I get the Mazda email to pre-order the RX8. :D

I made the pre-order online and went to Brown's that evening. So when I went in, I asked for the person who sent that email. I said I was there for the test drive, but it was a mute point because I wanted to order the RX8. "No problem!"

They pulled a Mazda 6 around, we did the 20 minute test drive, then filled out the paperwork on the RX8. Also, the salesman pointed out they were only charging MSRP, no markup and no dealer prep charge.

List was 31,100 and they initially wrote 31,000. Someone caught it (I didn't) and made him redo the form. The order sheet only had three charges: List, tax, tags.
Deposit was $1000 non-refundable. Deducted from the total on the sales order.

They also used my printout from the RX8 website to be sure they ordered exactly what I asked for.

Mine was the third order for a Black RX8 and in their second quota. But they "think" I can still expect it June/July. We'll see.

Hi Im a new member to this forum but a long time reader. I also preordered a winning blue rx-8 at fairfax brown mazda. Does anyone know if brown mazda is going to put on their ugly dealer logos on the rx-8s? I agree with pmacwill about the fairfax brown mazda, the dealers were very friendly, but their response to emails are kind of slow.

I plan to make sure my dealer does not put their logo on the car - unless it is classy and I like it - but I doubt it. I will have a small list of pre-delivery expectations - like I want to be there when it rolls off the transport truck, no waxing, etc. There is a good thread going I think, if I could find the discussion link back, that started about S2000 delivery requests by buyers.

Make sure at minimum you request no logos! Geez I requested no logos for my Hyundai Tiburon :)

I already told them about the dealer logo. Im thinking of writing a more through email to them about not putting on the front tags, reving high, and wax. I got the idea from http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?threadid=3479. I have another question though does anyone know of any good mechanic in the NOVA area, that knows how to work with rotary engines?

My RX7 has been cared for the last 6+ years by a mechanic at Rosenthal Mazda in Tysons Corner. He also owns several RX7s as does my service rep there. Performance Buyers Club usually known for Miata maintenance now has a full time rotary guru on staff, too. They are located in Chantilly. Im pretty young and with school and everything I cant make it to the meeting. Im also not sure about joining the club since my young age. Well I know where the tyson's mazda is so I guess I will go to them. Do you know if brown fairfax mazda has any good mechanics? I heard alot of dealer mechanics over price. Anyone have any input on that?

Yes, dealers will tend to cost more than 3rd party mechanics. It has been my personal choice to have the work done at a Mazda dealer. But I also trust the mechanic doing the work. Most dealers and some third party vendors offer MSCW members a discount, so it helps soften the price issue. My membership has been paid many times over by the discounts I have received.

I have no personal knowledge of the mechanics at Brown's Fairfax. Another source for information on mechanics and experiences others have had is to sign up for the Rotars and Roadsters Mail list on our website. You can pose your questions there to about 600 subscribers at once. There are several folks always willing to give an opinion or relate their personal experiences.;)

Im not that young haha. Im actually 19 going to be 20 by the time I pick up the rx-8. Thanks for the helpful advice trekn.
