HOLY SNOW in massachusetts
damn left work early today had to drive like 10 mph cause of the snow. a 15 minute drive took me 40 minutes. i was about half a block from my house i can even see my house and the car got stuck in the snow on the hill..the hill was only about 20 degrees slant. called AAA and had to wait about hour and half for them to pull me out. definitely need a winter car.
what a scary *** ride the car was sliding everywhere. no snow tires either. this snow is coming pretty damn fast to. anybody else having the same problem

yeah, I'm in northern CT, and we have a foot on the ground, and it's still snowing. They just said on the news that Satruday night through Sunday might be a 'Jackpot' for snow in my area. grrrrreat!

I saw a black 8 with the aero package and MS wing stuck on the side of the road in Watertown.
I also spent an hour and a half digging my car out and spent another hour trying to get out of my spot in the parking lot but the farthest I got was 10 feet. I have all season tires on mine but even if I had winter tires I don't think it would have made a difference.

I never hated snow until I bought a RX-8. Hopefully we get some dry days in the near future, I can't take looking at it in the garage everyday and having to drive my s10.

Well, I stuck a tape measure in the snow...and we have 14 inches. Heck, 2 days ago, they were saying we might just get a little bit of freezing rain from this storm! I snapped a few pics...nothing impressive....although I do now definitely know that my driveway is way too big to shovel by hand again!

Took me 5 hours and 45 minutes to drive the 45 miles from work to home and that was in my Jeep! I didn't even think about taking the 8 today. I have all seasons on it but that's for cold weather driving, not snow.

From the way you casually mention you didn't have "snow tires", it sounds like you're under the impression that winter tires are merely a nice little enhancement to "plus" the car's performance in winter a little. That's not the case! Winter tires are absolutely, positively mandatory—not an option. It's the difference between walking on ice in winter boots versus slick-soled dress shoes.

i had the snows (winter performance) on, but i still ran into trouble twice
worcester saw fit to let the traffic do the plowing.
i pulled over into ciao bella (rt 12) for a while and a blue 8 went by we chatted for a second (you on here?)
dropped the tire pressure to 10 psi and when the girlfriend got out of work (she works at the mall) pulled out of there with a little tire smoking fun.
thankfully by 5 o'clock (3.5 hrs after it started snowing) they were kind enough to drag the plow by 1 time (i kept a lookout). very disappointed, it was a major through way but in terrible shape. of course traffic was horrendous (some people abandoned there cars in the street) and everyone was everywhere. probably the worst weather management i've ever seen.
special thanks to ciao bella for not getting too pissed, and the handful of people who lent a hand.
i had to park on the street to clear my driveway, but after taking 4 hours to get home (normally a 20 minute drive) i'm a little too tired to dig the car out again to pull it in there. tomorrow after i get the car out i need to check the body for damages - there were a few close calls. Also i few times when i was jumping in an out of the car i forgot to disengage the parking brake (how embarrasing!) luckly i stalled right out ~ all in all the car was through a lot today - but i don't really hold much against it or my selection of tires - everyone was in bad shape, I just should've left work when we were let go (~1pm) instead of working for another hour.

Well, we had plenty of snow tonight. I would've gone home early, but I was meeting some people near my work at 6:30pm, so I pretty much stayed at work, got my car buried with snow, dug it out and drove around in the snow.
The car did great with snow tires. Granted, the roads were being plowed fairly decently, so the snow never got too bad on the actual roads. It probably stayed under 3". There was this one time that I had to make a right onto an uphill road through a 10"-to-a-foot-high snow bank (from the plows plowing the main roadway). I had to gather some speed to make that right turn, otherwise the bank would've slowed me down too much. Made it through though, triumphant!
Just like New Yorker says, the stock tires are extremely extremely bad in the snow. They are summer tires after all! Snow tires, or, heck, all-seasons, are a must if you want to get around in wintry conditions.
Fun times actually. I drove back home at a late hour, so roads were empty, only 1" of snow or so, so fairly stress-free commute back.
Snow driving pics from tonight.. see them all here.
Ready for snow:
Snowed in at work. The snow was to the door opening level... I opened the door and the snow was flush with door sills.
Triumphant backing out, only after rocking back and forth 3-4 times. No shoveling.
Parked at Doubletree to pick up a friend:
Plowed plenty of snow! By choice and by necessity! This is after driving 12 miles on 128 south and getting home in Waltham.
Since I came back home around 10:30pm, I had an amazingly stress-free drive today, at least compared to everyone else I know (who were stuck in traffic for many many hours).
I'm glad I'm stock ride height, although probably not that much difference. I definitely plowed many a snowbank.

My new snow tires defeniately saved me yesterday, but driving through 6 inches of snow is very very difficult in this car even with snow tires. Just not enough ground clearance.
Any the Hankook Ice Bears worked very well. I almost got stuck a couple of times only because the snow was so deep. Otherwise the tires worked great..
Only took me 5 hours to get home from work yesterday WOOHOO!!
Later guys
Take it easy.

I drove home from west hartford last night in my 2wd lowered s10 and had no issues. The rx-8 would probably be a better winter vehicle with snow tires but I hate to have to destroy it in the sand and salt.

.. yeah, you want more pressure, so you can compress the snow harder.

Any of you guys running studded tires? In my opinion comparing a studded winter tire to a non-studded winter tire is like comparing a winter tire to a summer tire. I've been in numerous situations where the studs have made a difference. They will eventually dig through anything and find their way to solid ground. You just have to watch climbing peoples driveways unless they like claw marks up them for the life of the pavement.

Not on much lately so my story is a bit delayed about the snow storm.
Was in JP stopping by my friends bodyshop so he could check out my damage since he'll be working on it. Sure enough it started to snow (around 12). Well I get to leave his work about 1:30. Rt1 was a friggin HORROR SHOW!!!!
Max speed was about 10mph and only for the breifest of moments did that occur. More often than now the avg speed was 6mph. I have Avon A/S (16" rims btw) and the car handled like a champ and very damn predictible. Only time the tires spun was when I wanted them to (hehe), and never once did she break lose unexpectedly. Took me about 2hours to get from Dedham to Norwood/Walpole line only to have my boss call me and tell me "Kevin if you want turn around and go home." needless to say I didnt argue with him. No one was on the other side of the road so I just hit the gas turned the wheel and did a nice 180! Figured I'd give the people behind me a nice lil show.
Everywhere I went though it was backed up tight, it was litteraly as if a nuke was coming down on us and everyone was trying to leave town as the saying goes.
Thankfully though shoveling the snow was not a real chore.

if the answer is no you dont have snow tires and running stock, wow, you're lucky that you are still alive !
I had All season last winter, RE960 A/S Pole Position, it was still kinda sliding everywhere.
This winter, LM-25, wow, Impressive. Im gonna tell everybody if your area has a chance of higher than 2 inches of snow, Snow tires are a MUST HAVE.
Get some snow tires, its worth every penny.
