Geico is back in Jersey

I just saved over $600 on my auto Insurance! To all New Jersey RX-8 Drivers Geico Insurance just started writing policies in our state, first time in over 20 years. Their online form is simple and fast so why not give it a try?

wow thats great

Thanks for the sales pitch, but if I still lived in NJ, I'd still avoid Geico.

I have no need to give money to a company that plays both sides of the field (investing money into radar/laser companies, and giving them to law enforcement for "testing"). You then get more tickets, and geico can then charge you more for insurance. They even bailed out a failing laser gun company by giving them close to a million dollars...

Also, I think Geico almost went bankrupt in the 70's because of NJ.

expo1 08-18-2004 09:29 AM

Don’t know when you left the peoples republic of Jersey but we do not have that many companies to based our choices on their support of law enforcement or other political stances. This is a very expensive state to live in so saving $600 is a big deal. I also could care less if Geico gave every cop in the state a radar gun, I don’t speed so I don’t get tickets. With the number of cars on the roads in NJ finding room enough to speed is difficult anyway.

mysql101 08-18-2004 09:39 AM

ha - so true. I still find myself looking behind bridges or bushes for cops. In NJ they had them around every corner.

I had 3 cars totaled in the 2 years I lived in NJ. None my fault ... all either from a big truck or SUV who wasn't paying any attention to the cars around them.

I shouldn't be saying this, but the three accidents, I went 6 months with no insurance on my 993 convertable. As luck would have it, I moved out of the state shortly after. I forget what my logic was, I think it was because I lost money on every accident, and the insurance cost so much I decided it wasn't worth getting. Dumb, I know, but I was not happy there.

New Jersey Manufacturers Rules!

flatso: i could not agree with you more. My Rx-8 is cheaper with NJM then my 96 t-bird was with prudental.

Thanks for the heads-up. Their quote is over $600/year cheaper than what I currently pay, but I'm awaiting my NJM package as well.

I've had Geico for the past 4 years and while they aren't rock bottom cheap (I found AIG is) they've been good so-far. No accidents but I've had to use them twice for roadside assistance and their customer service handled the whole process exceptionally. I switched from Allstate (which used to be a great company) and saved about 50% which ended up being $1,500 p/y. Also, their online policy management and quoting system is pretty slick. No complaints so far.

If they save me money.... I'm in!

I don't know if amex auto insurance is available in NJ, but I switched from AIG Direct to amex and saved about $600 a year.

Every time I've priced Geico, they've been substantially more expensive than almost every other company I've priced. I'm with Liberty Mutual now, after Allstate raised my rates by 40% for absolutely no reason (I had no tickets, no accidents, no claims).

How is that possible? I'm 25, no points at all, and only drive my 8 to work (7 miles) two days a week. I also live in a low/no crime area. Are you shorting on the coverages, or just getting the bare minimum required by law? Please explain.

Lemme first say that this is the quote I got from the Internet on Geico's web site. They emailed me the quote, so I'm not actually getting this in reality, and cannot say 100% that this is actually possible.

Anyway,
Bodily Injury Liability 100/300
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY 20M $92.50
PIP FULL HEALTH PRIMARY OPT-B $93.90
UM + UNDERINSURED MOTORIS 15/30 $9.00
UM/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST 10M $7.20
COMPREHENSIVE 1M $52.60
COLLISION 1M $208.70
MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN INS 250 $44.90

Total Premium for Vehicle $644.00

Total Premium $644.00

Go to the Geico web site and you will find the questionnaire that will give the details on all those options. I can't remember exactly what each meant.

Kel Rx8 08-20-2004 08:52 AM

A buddy of mine must have been talking out of his ass when he said it'd be $250 a month for an rx8, at 24 yrs old, at liberty.

I have to say that when I signed up with GEICO, they gave me pretty much what was quoted to me online. The only discrepancy was, I didn't tell them exactly how much over the speed limit I was going on my ticket, so their rate was that much higher...other than that, they didn't try to pull one on me. So I'd say give them a call and take the rate, it does sound very good. I'm 24 live in the city of Philadelphia, and I'm paying up the shizzle...of course, I have a ticket on my record, and this area sucks for driving. Will go down after I turn 25 in Jan.
