Patuxent road - Crofton MD to Odenton MD

There is a stretch of road that has PERFECT for rx8 driving. Me and my friends actually call this road the “Test Track" because it’s a road where you can actually test every aspect of your rx8 from handling, acceleration and braking. The stretch is just over 2 miles long and is virtually cop free. On the map I posted, I stopped short of using the entire road because towards the end you run into a residential area where houses are! Please make note of that... I do not recommend doing any high speed driving in any residential area. The area of road that I have highlighted is either woods or industrial. Before taking this road on for test purposes I suggest driving it one time to get a feel for where the hard curves are. Also on the hard curves there is 1 of 2 things... Either MAJOR trees or MAJOR BOULDERS to keep cars from hitting something on the side of the road. For those who love to drive and not just speed all of the time, I highly recommend this road... you can get up to about 80 - 90 before your next curve hits where you brake ALL THE WAY DOWN to about 30 to clear the curve. If any of you feel adventurous I would suggest checking this road out.

To get to this road is relatively easy... you can either come in to Odenton via Rt 175 and turn onto Piney Orchard parkway (which turns into Patuxent road) or you can take rt 3 into Crofton and make a right onto Conway road (if you are going SB on rt 3... its a left if your going NB). Conway road is the road at the traffic light where K-Mart is but it looks like its going to take you to an industrial area.

Enjoy the road...

Edit:

I have posted 2 more maps, the first shows how to get to patuxent road from rt 3 in Crofton and the other shows how to get there from 175 (Annapolis road) in Odenton.

Church Road - Bowie MD to Upper Marlboro / Largo MD

This road is another fun one but is VERY dangerous if you don’t drive it once at normal speeds to learn it. This road is comprised of tight 2 lane drive paths with HARD high bank curves with NO barrier between you and the side of the road. The sides of the road are actually walls of dirt. This road was literally carved out of a hill so it’s almost like your driving through a cave with an open ceiling. At 4.95 miles this road gives you LOTS of play time with areas where you can get air borne because of hills. The road starts off entering a residential area but then drops off going directly down hill with 2 semi 90 degree turns. One of which is at the bottom of the hill and the other is on the climb back up to the straight way. The straight away is about 1 mile of open road with a hill / mound near the end just big enough to get you airborne if you take it faster than 45 – 50 MPH. Shortly after that you want to slow way down… you start approaching a 4 way intersection where there is a stop sign and traffic here can be mild to high at certain points of the day. Once you pass through the intersection, you now enter the “cave” portion of the road I mentioned before. This is the most dangerous part because curves are hard and come quickly. This is the area where the agility and braking power as well as acceleration of the 8 really shines. Do not take this next portion faster than 45 because you will probably wreck out. This portion is to test how well the car handles and brakes. At about 2 miles long, I think you will have white knuckles by the time you finish this route. If you feel you want a challenge I recommend this road but just to give you an idea of the danger if you’re not careful I would rate this road at an 8 on a scale of 1 – 10

To get here take MD Rt 450 (PG County) into bowie and follow that to old Annapolis road. Turn on to old Annapolis road and double back and make a right turn sight at the Shell Station. That is church road or take central avenue (MD 214) like your going to Six Flags America and about 1 mile north of there, the turn for church road is at the light

Patuxent River Rd, Long Run

Patuxent River Rd, Long Run
(Length: 25.7mi, Time to Drive: approx 45min)

Here's my default Sunday afternoon drive route. It's filled with twisties, including a couple that are treacherous if taken too fast. The section of interest is Patuxent River Rd/Harwood Rd. I've extended the route to provide easy access on and off from Rt. 50 and to begin or end at the Annapolis Mall where yummy munchies can be found. The route as laid out will take a little less than an hour to run, but it can be shortened at many points simply by cutting across the loop on any of those little country roads.

The route is primarily lined with sparse residential areas, agricultural areas, and heavy woods. Watch your speed! The route is not heavily patrolled, but if folks get out there and **** off the locals it'll ruin it for the rest of us. There are a few unpopulated areas where you can put some speed on and have fun through the corners, but be careful not to wrap your 8 around a tree! Pavement condition throughout the route is excellent.

Of course, you could spend all day running around the Davidsonville area (sometimes I do!) this is just one easy route around the area.

If you see a Titanium Gray RX-8 wave, because it's probably me.
