Exhaust Swap Help (NH/MA area)
 

Alright I'll attempt to make this quick.

My10ae and myself are having a Exhaust Swap. I'm getting his killa Borla and he my stock exhaust. Problem is as we all know nature decided to spite us and Snow like a Bitch! We both realize doing this in a garage on lifts is gonna be a major pain not to mention a cold one. So I'm posting here to ask for some help, does anyone work for a shop that could do this for us for a decent price, or recommend a place? Myself I'm willing to shell out $100 for this and it shouldnt take more than a hour tops to swap the exhaust's from our cars.

Both of us are anal about our cars so just calling up some random place we'd like to avoid completely. I sent a email to one person who might be able to help us out but I havent heard back from her (yet). So you guys/gals know anyone you can recommend with no worries and could do this Saturday Afternoon?

This won't help your situation much, but I can tell you it took my local dealer several hours, a blow torch, a big hammer, and some good sized chisels AFTER he got the OEM muffler and midpipe off the car in one piece to get them to separate (12K miles). Seems they enjoy a press fit that siezes with the exhaust heat and is a bitch to get apart. After that it was relatively easy to get my catback on. Fortunately you won't need to separate them hopefully...Good luck!

Thanks Spin. I'd like to believe my exhaust wont be that stuck together since I had my CAT replaced back in Oct/Nov. I've only put erm.. 2k miles on her if that.

You don't need to separate the OEM muffler from the midpipe. Just take out the stocker full size, and stick it on the other car.

The problem is that to remove the stocker full size (W/o cutting anything), you either need to remove the plastic shrouds (i.e. risk breaking tabs and having to replace one or both, like I did), or remove the cat.

Or you can sawzall the intermediate pipe off the stocker (like my10ae was suggesting, but I didn't listen), and then weld it back together on the other car.

just take it to a muffler shop. they charged me $100 to remove and dispose of my old exhaust and put the new one on. just make sure you don't break the plastic shrouds as mentioned before like i did. i'm not sure if you'd be able to get it done for <$100 if you're just swapping.

how about you come to the group install and get it done. i forget what we had to pitch in but its just a thought.

If you're afraid of breaking the clips on the exhaust shrouds, you also can remove the entire rear bumper which actually takes less time than being extremely careful trying not to break the clips on the shrouds.
