Drove over an exposed metal post and ripped cross member...

Okay so I've officially moved to Queens... And for my warm welcome I drove into my driveway for the first time only to have a piece of exposed post that's sticking 3 inches outta the middle of the driveway rip one of my cross members off. Well not completely off but one side has the bolt ripped through the floor pan (it's the second cross member that straddles the exhaust tunnel). Basically, the post snagged the end of the bolt holding on the cross member and it pulled the brace and nut straight out of the floorpan!

So instead of replacing everything I just need a good welder to persuade the bent metal to be straight via a percussion tool and weld it properly to the floor pan. Can any one recommend a shop that I can take my 8 to? I figure maybe Jason can help me out since he's in Queen's... Please reply, I'd appreciate the info. Should be a pretty easy job. Hook me up with a number. I'm looking to get the work done sometime next week (week night). Maybe we can make it a little mini meet at my expense!

You could try Tony and T and R Racing. (718-725-0179) He has all the welding equipment and you don't have to leave your car. If you need a sawzall borrowed to fix that post sticking out, pm me if you want to borrow one. I'm in long island but it's a nice drive.

Jason, there is also a meineke muffler place by Francis Lewis and Jamaica that can fix items like this, not sure if you ever been there but that's another option.

Hey, I know this is an old post but the exact same thing happened to me. The bodyshop are saying they have to take the seats and carpet out to do the welding. Just wondering what happened in your case if you are still around these parts!
Thanks

Still around and still own the RX8.

When I had the cross member rewelded I did not remove the carpets or seats. We just hammered the cross member up and welded right away.

Some shops have strict safety policies so just check out another shop to see what they have to offer.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. So did you weld it straight to the floor pan? Have you had any problems since??
I'm considering bolting it as it only made a small hole when it pulled the bolt through... I'm just trying to get as much info as possible before committing to something!

Welded straight to the floor pan. No issues at all, no leaking, no burns, no problems at all.
