whats up guys im new to this forum and im looking for buyin an used rx8 in new york area. this is going to be my first car and im willing to buy a new rx8 because ive seen a lot of people have got extremly good deal but my parents wont let me. well i need the car just for two years (international student).

ive never had to deal with "american" dealership so far, so im kinda nervous about getting an "used" rx8. So, guys who live in ny area recommand any "GOOD" dealership? well ive been searching for some info in this forum about the dealership in ny but it wasnt easy. guys please help me out with this Im currently about of states and i only have one to two days to shop for my RX8. thank you!

There are lots of articles out on the internet on how to buy a used car here in the US. The basic gist is figure out what the car is worth and what you are willing to pay before hand.

The two basic methods are:

Walk in, say this is what I'm willing to pay. If they say no or barter at all walk out. Try the next place.

Other method (perhaps better) walk in, say this is what I'm willing to pay, but say a number a thousand or two bellow what your actual price is. If they go over your price walk out and try the next place.

The biggest challenge is being afraid to say no.

Also, try and get the service history of the vehicle.

But read up, there is lots of info out there. Also, you can see if anyone on the board can go with you to help or at least give you moral support.

I get my 8 serviced at Wayne Mazda in NJ, about 20 minutes west of the GW Bridge. They are the largest Mazda dealer in the country, always lots of RX-8s there. I really like their service department, and I've heard they're a good place to buy a car, too.

Never been, but I've heard good things about Great Neck Mazda on LI.

Avoid Manhattan Mazda in NYC, and East Coast Mazda in NJ.

If you are near the city I can tell you one place in jersey to stay the hell away from at all costs- Mazda of Lodi in NJ. They are the shadiest people in the business. I'd give the thumbs up to Wayne Mazda.

I bought my 8 at Great Neck Mazda new. I wouldn't say I love em but they did the job and were professional. I don't need a dealership with crazy personality or bad attitude. Just like efficiency.

The guys in a parts and service are funny guys though and they work pretty quickly.

BTW What's your nationality that you're afraid of American Dealerships? :)

ok then, lets say 2x,xxx miles 05 with gt package and the sticker shows "22000" and im willing to pay around 18000 to 18500 then i gotta say 16000 to 17000 right?

but isnt that kind of risky since I called about $ 6k off from the sticker? ive seen a lot of article how to buy a new cars not the used ones.

You need to figure out a reasonable price to aim for. Those sites ought to help with that. I think dealers tend to use KBB, but explore them both.
