Cobb Tuning AccessPORT Help - New Jersey
I bought an AccessPORT a month ago, and it finally arrived last Friday 3 days ago. It couldn't communicate with my 8's ECU all weekend. Brought my car to an AutoZone and cleared a CEL code figuring that might help. It did... I connected the AccessPORT and started the installation, and about 9% into the AccessPORT downloading the stock settings it just went blank. Same principle as if I yanked the USB cable and dongle out midway through - my 8 won't even start.
The dealership it could go both ways between either having to install a new ECU or reloading/rebooting the stock software. I'm hoping for the latter because I really don't want to pay $1600 for a new computer, and be SOL on a $700 defective AccessPORT. Any suggestions, info, etc I can get from someone out there? I could definitely use a hand. |
did you even have a map loaded on it? you need a map to install it completely.

Chances are the AP will have to be sent back to COBB for warranty work. They are the only ones that can tell if the hardware is damaged or if the software needs to be reloaded.
I would contact COBB and they can tell you how to handle the situation. |
Success!
I called up Cobb Tuning today, and explained what happened. I was going to load the Stage 1 map that came preloaded. Before plugging into the OBD II port I made sure the AP was model specific. I was in good shape. For now it seems to be I was just one of the VERY FEW unlucky guys who got a bum handheld. The dudes at Cobb said to send it in along with my 8's ECU; they're going to reset the computer to its stock settings and provide a new tuner since I'm under warranty. I'm stuck with my dick in my hand and my thumb up my ass without a car for a bout a week or two, but everything should be alright *I hope* ... Thanks for the expedient responses!

Also, if anyone has any tips or useful knowledge on how to generate maps or overall AP usage hit me back with a PM. I think Cobb's product is a great tool, and I's like to learn as much as I can about it.

Did you not do any research on this web site before buying the AP?
If you bought the AP from Mazdamaniac, it would come with free tuning for 6 months. LINK |
yes, please check out the Engine Tuning section of the forum.
