Brand new to the rotary experience.
As you can see by my log in name, I am quite older than most of the posters on this forum, nevertheless I do enjoy reading the posts about the rx8 as far as technical, how to maintain the auto, and keep it ship-shape (spent some time in the Navy). Originally I was going to buy a 2003 mercedes slk 230 with less than 6K, but being 6'3'', my head was in the headliner. Than I took a test drive of a 2006 demo Rx8 at Turnersville Mazda, and it was love at first sight. They had a white Shinka edition in the show room with 7 miles on it and that was the one I took home. Luckily it was the six speed manual, and currently I have 700 miles on it and I feel like a kid again. I plan on doing my own oil changes with castro GTX 5W-20, with Mazda oil filters. I do get a complimentary oil change at 3K. I have been thinking about applying the clear bra myself to the front end. Any pro's or con's about the clear stuff and applying it yourself (I'm pretty handy)? That's enough of my ramblings, and I know I will enjoy every minute behind the wheel of my RX-8.

Welcome....
Congrats on the new car, OldGuy!
I wouldn't recommend trying to apply the 3M stuff yourself - I got mine professionally done, computer cut, and I STILL had to go back for a second day, the curves on the lower bumper are quite aggressive. S |
So....how old are you.....
|
Shinkas come in white now?

Hate to spoil this, but there is no Shinka model in White! That salesman/woman gave false info! For the 2006 model, I think the Shinka comes in a copper red color..or was that for the 2007? Anyways, not sure if you can do anything about this, but if the salesman/woman told you that this was a "Shinka" then you should be able to go back and rip them a new one. Just the shinka name brand mean it not only have stiffer suspension system, but the interior and exterior has things that stands out compared to regular 8's (white leather interior, shinka on the side door, etc.).
As for the 3M stuff..yeah..8 has waaaay too much curves for an easy application..should be able to do it for $700 or so..and..good stuff!!! |
Welcome! I am a "Mid"-timer here with this mostly younger crowd. I have an 06 Shinka and I do think the only color for the Shinka in 06 is Copper Red (at least in the US).
Is your car an 07? I understand the Shinka edition is being offered in Whitewater Pearl for 07. There is much to learn on this forum about this great car. It does have a few nuances you should learn about for taking care of it and how to drive. Read a lot, and use the search tool liberally so the search police won't come hunting for you when you ask questions. Happy motoring and reading |

I have the Mazda Rx-8, Shinka edition sitting in my garage with the appearance package, consisting of front air dam and side and rear aero flares. There is a Shinka emblem on the side of the car. The leather is a combo of sand leather and the pseudo suede in a beige. Also have the rear wing spoiler. I believe the whitewater pearl paint is new for 2006.

Guess I am a youngster at 53. I test drove a titanium grey Shinka. They come in other colors; although, not all of them, and the only different color is the red that the others don't come in. Have fun oldtimer from a younger timer.
