Boston Metro Area Drivers. MUST READ

Just watched the news this evening and there was a story of something going on in Mass over the next two weeks. Its called "Operation Road Respect". They will staffing 4-6 extra state troopers during the morning and evening commutes. I believe that will be from 7-9am and 4-7pm. They said the emphasis will be in I-495 and I-93. Personally, I've seen a large increase in state trooper activity on the Mass Pike between Weston and Logan Airport as well. If you are travelling any of these roads, turn up your Valentine Ones and slow down a bit if you tend to drive faster.

As a side note, I've noticed that my valentine has been picking up less stuff lately. Thinking it might be time for an update. Does anyone know the new radar tech thats out there?

Thank god I stick to Rt1 hehe...

Sad though they look for well "reckless drivers" but dont pull over those that are hindering the flow of traffic that produce's those "reckless drivers". I never really understood that at all. Me I'm stuborn and at times refuse to pass on the right which is one illegal and two dangerous but when you see the traffic in the right lane moving faster than you who are in the far left lane there is a problem.

The Troopers need to rethink their plan and call it "Move Out Of The Way", pull over those that are doing the speed limit or in some instance's below it that are in the left lanes. Again its sad that in some parts of the highway you can be in the far right lane and be going faster than those in the 2 far left lanes.

Thanks for the heads up though I'll pass it alone to a few friends who travel that way daily.

I couldn't agree with you more. Skillwise I feel like I'm a better driver than 95% of the drivers out on the road. I know exactly how my car handles, reacts, accelerates, and brakes due to my HPDE training. It bugs me to no end that there is a lady, driving 3 kids in a minivan, doing her makeup, is doing 55 in the left lane and holding up traffic. I could go on for years on this topic.

That's definitely what I witnessed today around 4:30pm on I-495 South, saw 2 speed traps between 290 and rt 44. Just slow down for any overpasses as cops love to hide there and you should be fine. Don't cruise any faster than the middle lane travellers (usually around 72mph) and you'll be fine.

My previous car (a new C class mercedes) was totalled more or less due to a dangerous speed trap. I was passed by an over zealous and unexperienced driver on I-190 in worcester going probably 90mph. She was 10 car lenghts ahead of me as she crested a hill and spotted a laser speed trap with 2 state troopers. She locked up her brakes paniced and somehow manged to loop her car and t-bone me sending me off on a pretty long ride which I don't remember due to the head injury I sustained. Car was annhilated I got hurt and she was more or less fine. It wouldn't have happened had the trap been not so close to the road and not a massive surprise. I feel that the over zealous policing of speed was the catalyst of the whole event and feel the police in many ways were as responsible as the other operator.

The only plus side of the police was that they witnessed the accident and cited her so there was no question of fault etc.

I work at Cambridge now so I take the T in everyday. I definitely don't the miss morning and afternoon drives around Boston; naps on the train, no traffic, and its much cheaper. Thanks for the heads up though, will definitely keep an eye out for them on the weekends.

Guys, you should join the National Motorists Association, the organization responsible for repealing 55mph national speed limit and currently fighting against speed cameras, and for higher speed limits.

On the MA page for the NMA, they have several additional "heavy ticketing periods" for 2007, just like what RPIRX-8 pointed out:

HEAVY TICKETING PERIODS FOR 2007:
March 23 - April 8, 2007
May 14 - June 3, 2007
July 2 - 15, 2007
August 17 - September 3, 2007
Obviously things will change, and there will be Thanksgiving and Christmas enforcements periods.
