Advice on extended warranty

Any advice on an extended warranty please, the dealer want to charge me $1600 for power train warranty for 2 years and $2100 for bumper to bumper. Is any think better I can get around?
42000 miles 2005
Thanks

how many miles do you currently have? if you didn't know we have powertrain coverage to 100K so maybe only the bumper to bumper is worth it. But i would recc. just putting some money aside into an account in case you need repairs and if you dont, then you have the cash for whatever...

Isn't powertrain also limited by years? 6 years I thought it was.

In general, a private party extended warranty is a better option. I agree with karstman that keeping the cash is the best option of the 3. Put it in an interest bearing account of some sort (18-24 month CD, maybe?) and use it for repairs if necessary. Otherwise you have it for something else instead of handing it over to a warraty company and then hoping it was worth it.

We definitely need more info on your car to answer you, though. Model year & miles - b/c it makes all the difference on how much warranty you have now. One recall extended us to 5/60 and then the core is covered 8/100 depending on the model year.

Buy it from the people that call your cell phone once a week.... I hear they have great coverage.

I'd say put into a cd or just bank account (like lets say the monthly rate of the coverage they are asking)
