Hi, guys, i just bought a 2007 Mazda RX8 - i changed the battery, Maf, plugs and coils.
Bought it without a catalytic converter.
Start fine, idle perfect. For the first 30 miles high power and runs smooth, but then it start hesitate and gets a power loss, the car will stil go but when i slow down the enjin just cuts out completely. I will turn the ignition off and on again it it starts perfectly. Is there anyone that can help me please.

Do you have any codes?

Get a Bluetooth OBD2 that can read live data and post a couple of pics of the data.

You could try resetting the ECU too

whats up everyone im new here. Well I was wondering if anyone can help me with my issue with my 2004 RX-8. It still idles and shuts down when I put it in gear. Ive changed the SAI pump, I cleaned out the SSV, I put in a new fuel pump along with a new Coolant Temp Sensor and after al I've done it still idle and then turns off when in gear. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should check out next? Please help me out someone lol

Stop throwing parts. SAI pump has nothing to do with your issue. It's merely an emission device.

Automatic or manual? Sounds like an automatic, or you will have to learn how to drive a stick properly.

If it's an automatic then I'd think it's related to the transmission.

No its a manual. Ive only had the car since January.

Yes exactly and one time I drove the car down the street to put gas and it started over heating as well.

So let me get this right, you are stopped with the clutch pressed own all the way, and you put the car in first, you release the clutch to the bite point and at the same time, you rev to about 1200~1500 RPM, and when you let out the clutch completely, the car dies. Is this correct?

Overheating is related to cooling system faults, obviously. Could be a lot of things, like a stuck closed thermostat, a busted fan, a leak somewhere, etc. Start by seeing if there is any leak/cracks in the cooling system.

yes when I rev to 5000 RPM and when I release the gas peddle thats when it shuts down on me. But when the car is on it has a low idle lower then 1000 RPM. I sounds like it struggles for air.

Normal idle, when warmed up, is about 810~840 RPM. Actually, I haven't driven a stock car with an idle higher than 900 RPM.

If you rev your car up and it dies, you should start by checking vacuum leaks.

No I could rev it high and it wouldn't die on me. Its when I release the gas peddle then it idles then turns off.

My car, after disconnecting the battery for whatever reason, forgets how to idle. Strange that it does this, but it does. At first it was frustrating and very worrisome, as the car would stall on me when coming to a stop at red lights. I read somewhere, maybe this forum, that I had to "reteach" the car to idle. So I disconnect the battery once again for a maybe 10 minutes so it'll forget all the stalling I've done; then I reconnect it. I start the car, using my foot on the throttle to keep it from stalling if needed. I slowly decrease my pressure on the throttle until the car stays idling on its own. I let it idle for another 5 minutes or so. Its slightly time consuming, but works for me...

I'm still not sure I understand your problem. Forgive me if I explain stuff you already know, but without more information, I figure it's best to start with the basics.

To get very specific, try this:

• Start car; idle should start out high, and gradually creep down as the engine warms up until it's around 800.
• To move the car, put the clutch in, and rev up to about 3000.
• Let the clutch out until it starts grabbing a little and begins moving the car. RPM will drop somewhat, say to 2000.
• Let the clutch out more while giving it more gas to keep the RPMs up around 1800-2500.
• Let the clutch fully out and start driving down the road.

Since the RX-8's engine is really light, it's really easy to stall. You will have to spin it up more than most cars to get it going, and it will take a bit more gas to keep it going as you let out the clutch. If you follow these steps and have trouble, specify exactly where things are going wrong. Is it when you spin up to 3K with the clutch in? That could be a vacuum leak. Is it idling? You might need plugs and coils. Is it when the clutch starts grabbing and you put a load on the engine? You may not be giving it enough gas, or your plugs and coils might be bad. If you put the gas pedal down to the floor and it still won't keep running, then you do have some serious problem. Otherwise, putting the pedal down a bit more is probably normal.

Give us more details or even a video, and we should be able to help diagnose the problem.

Besides, I never got to 3000RPM when starting on flat ground. 1500RPM is sufficient, while 2000RPM is good enough if you want to take off quickly in daily driving. 3000RPM is used mostly on fairly steep hills where I would want to pull my handbrake.

Another thing is that it's easier if you hold the clutch at the engagement point for a little bit while giving gas until the car reaches a certain speed, rather than continuing to let it out. This comes from a lot of seasoned manual trans drivers teaching newbies.
