17 inch wheels for winter?

Does anyone know if seventeen inch wheels will fit over the 12.9 " disk calipers on a 2006 rx8? All-season tires for winter in 225/50/17 are available for much less $ than 225/45/18's.

you can fit them depending on the rim maker....there are a few threads in the tire section on exactly which ones will clear the calipers

I run 17" Mille Miglia Evo5 Alloy Wheels with LM-22 Bridgestone Blizzak 225/50VR17 tires during the winter. I don't have any problem with the wheels fitting over the disks on my 2004 RX8. The 17s are less expensive and because they are slightly narrower than the 18s, you get a little better control in deeper snow.

I am running 17x7 Kosei T1-KS wheels with 215/55/17 Dunlop M3 tires. No fitment problems. Got them from Tire Rack. They have quite a few choices in 17" that clear the brakes.

I have the stock 17" wheels off of our 350Z with Blizzak snow tires for the winter. Hopefully they'll fit. I never thought about them potentially not clearing the calipers.

Tire rack lists about 20 or so 17" wheels for the 6-speed that work with both the brakes and TPMS. Make sure you search for "winter wheel and tire packages" or they will only show you 18" wheels.
