The October Duluth Run

I am starting (hopefully) an annual Rx-8/7 meet starting this October.

We will meet at a location (TBD) on a weekend in Mid October (TBD) along a specified route (TBD) making stops at certain areas (TBD).

I know all aspects are TBD, BUT, we are having a couple of planning meetings the next couple of weekends. We will meet tomorrow afternoon at around 4PM at Moose Country Cafe' in Lilydale, MN. It is off of HWY 13 North of the 13/35E Junction.

Hope to see a few of you there! My name is Chris.

Let's make this a yearly thing! :beerchug:

And if you are going to show up, let it be heard here or by a pm to me. If you are going to show, and say so, more will want to come, to meet new people!

Im going to try and make it there. might be a little late

Schartz 08-28-2010 02:26 PM

I down. I live right across the bridge from duluth. I know some good spots to meet up here.

Shikaktu 08-28-2010 04:39 PM

I am excited about the Oct run. I had a great time last time we met. I wont make it to the planning meeting on the 28th as you guys are meeting atm. I will try make it to the next one though. Drive safe =)

Thompsolonian 08-29-2010 12:33 AM

Ok...so nobody showed up, and I waited until 630 but still nobody...did drop a note in a cupholder of a Plymouth Prowler though, maybe they will show up to the meet in Oct.

So...I think I will try another planning session this coming Saturday, a weeks head notice.

Same place, same time, I had the whole place to myself and it was kinda awesome, but kinda lonely as well...

If you are gonna make it, let me know AND show up...

The wife and I drove to Duluth this weekend, it was a nice trip. Drove up 35 and it took a little more then two hours. Some rough spots in the roads. Saw one silver RX8 up there a little past but that was it.

Well, in October, There will hopefully be 8's 7's a couple of tiburons, and maybe a Plymouth Prowler or two...and a few nissan/datsun z series.

Maybe you're dad can actually turn on the heated seats in his car :mdrmed:

Best weekends for me are the 2nd-3rd and the 23-24th. There are autocrosses on the 9th, 10th and 17th that I really don't want to miss. Lots of good roads up there, particularly up to Ely.

Schartz 09-01-2010 10:18 AM

^
Where do you do the autocrossing?

MacDubois 09-01-2010 12:29 PM

I run with the Minnesota Autosports Club, www.mnautox.com. Those weekends we'll be at Cantebury in Shakopee, MN and Midway Stadium in St. Paul, MN. But with buying my house and the 8, I've missed almost all of them this year.

Thompsolonian 09-04-2010 03:41 PM

I can not do the 2nd-3rd. Air Force Unit Training Assembly.
We will figure it out (hopefully) this afternoon @ a meeting...

Thompsolonian 09-06-2010 04:12 PM

October 16th and 17th it is! It is rated the best time to go see the leaves in the region(s) we will be crossing on the way up. Any later and the leaves will be on the ground.

The route in question is being worked out, I am going to have a link to the google maps, and I will have websites of places we WILL go. Plan to meet at around 8am and leave by 9 am Saturday morning, and start heading back in the morning Sunday. The plan is to go up as a group, and head back at our own individual party(S) prerogative. Groups on the way back would be preferred, but if there is time requirements, or you just wanna get back home, that is totally understandable.

As far as a place to stay Saturday night, it may be fun to hit a state campsite (cheap, easy to pitch a tent...etc. Any other Ideas are welcome (and if someone in the Duluth/Superior area would be willing to loan their lawn to camp out on for one night, that would be awesome!)

So...that is the plan, any ideas for stops, or a MUST DRIVE side routes are welcome.

I also understand that some of you may not be able to make it, but if you give a couple ideas, we could possibly pick a slightly earlier date or a different date for next year (well ahead of time to get more people to show up next year)

I will create a Google Docs for use at the forum, Minnesota Duluth run roster, and If you guys would like, I will create a roster and an E-mail newsletter so we can hopefully have a little more active summer ans spring next year. More events = more fun with our Mazdas (other nicer cars will be invited as well).

Thanks guys!

All I need is a headcount, I know for sure I am going, I will keep editing the headcount as long as people E-mail me at thompsolonian@gmail.com or PM (preferably e-mail though).

So far the Headcount is 3 (+1)
Drivers: Thompsolonian, Shikaktu, TonyVS12385

*note the #'s in parenthesis are for passengers

Shikaktu 09-06-2010 11:06 PM

Sounds good to me. I plan on going as well, not sure if the wife will go or not but sounds like a good time. Did you have a time you wanted to head out that morning?

TonyVS12385 09-08-2010 11:17 AM

count me in for now... possibly an sti and genisis joining in...

TonyVS12385 09-08-2010 11:22 AM

also should invest in walkies

Thompsolonian 09-09-2010 08:00 AM

If the other forums allow it, post a link to this thread so they can check the information themselves. Make doubly sure the forums allow it, some do not like links to other forums.

Shikaktu 09-25-2010 07:27 AM

Do you have a count on how many people are planning on going?

Schartz 09-26-2010 05:18 PM

One Place that would be most definitely worth the detour is going through jay cooke state park. Its a long winding road that follows the saint lois river and its a fun road. There are some spot along the road to stop and see some great views.

Here a mapquest of what i mean...

Shikaktu 10-11-2010 09:43 AM

The date is drawing near. We still have people going and how many? I plan on going.

Thompsolonian 10-14-2010 02:51 PM

Well, this saturday is the day, and with all the effort I have had trying to get this started, I can not go.

I started work at a new company, and they gave me 4-10's with tuesday, wednesday and thursday off...

On top of the worst days possible, they will not give me a couple days off unless I have comp time...

BUT, I hope you guys go have fun and take lots of pictures, the meeting place was Fuddruckers and I believe Hwy 61 was the chosen route for going up that way...It may also be just as good to drive down 61 to winona or something...just for this year.

We can plan something bigger for next year!

Shikaktu 10-15-2010 10:18 PM

Well there was only three of us and one is out so I'm going to pass as well. We can do something in the summer. Hope you like you're new job man.

Thompsolonian 10-16-2010 01:19 AM

Aside from the bad days, it is a blast.

Running parts to and from planes at a busy airport! Plus flight benefits, can't beat that.
