Hello,
I just bought a 2008 untitled RX8 40th Anniversary edition with every option available ( but NAV was not an option?) on June 10th, 09.
A little background: I road raced, AutoX and 1/4 mile a twin turbo well moddified Stealth, running the AEM ems, Evo 16G's for the past 10 years and last June passed it down to my oldest married son. As fast as that Stealth was, the RX8 is so much better for a driver's car..so impressed!
I have no experience with the rotary engine and hope to have a not too steep learning curve with this platform.
The dealer gave me a free Lifetime drive train warranty even though Mazda apparently gives a 100K mileage warranty on the engine, retro active to 2004. I guess they did that last December? So as long as I use only Mazda Speed parts, the warranty is good. Am I out of luck on that for getting a bit better torque and better mileage? The first 950 miles has shown hwy of 22.7 mpg
My 440+ hp 3600 lb AWD Stealth got 26mpg at 75 mph hwy using the AEM ems to lean out the AFRs to 15.00 : 1 I don't think another AEM ems will be used given the warranty for Life coverage..ah the good with the bad, as they say.
Hope to meet all of you MN owners some day!

You should definitely join us when we have a meet up the next time. It will be nice to have another special edition RX8 in the group.

I hope you knew about the gas mileage before you bought the car. I am going to tell you right now, if gas mileage is a concern, you bought the wrong car. If you bought it for fun, amazing handling, unique sound and an engine unlike anything else on the road, then you bought the right car.

Hey guys,
Im going to be traveling around starting saturday. Im taking a road trip, before ending up in the Minneapolis/St. Paul for wedding. I will be down to the cities probably next week around the 23rd 24th.
It would be cool, to catch a glimpse of another fellow Rx8 member.
My 8 will stand out slightly with the Momo Wheels, but other than that it just BB with 19" tires.
Hope to see someone!

Is Nifty
I was checking what recalls have been done at the dealership the other day and while I was waiting I test drove the 09 R3 that was at the auto show. It handles really nice and was really smooth but I was dissappointed at how slow it felt. I didn't realize how much I'd miss the minimal gains I get from my exhaust/intake and ignition kit. Maybe it was just my imagination and I'm just too used to sounding fast with my sp2 exhaust.

Improvements real?
having come from a twin turbo car, I have had to acclimate to the lack of " feel of the pants" when accelerating yet the numbers appear better than what the seat feels, because of the less torque in comparison to the old car, a modified twin turbo Stealth. Hands down, this 2008 Rx8 with Bilstein package out handles any of the big guns.
Would there be any advantage in power or in Hwy. mileage by swapping in a drop in K&N air filter?
I logged a decent 23 plus mpg at a sustained 3 hr trip at plus 70 mph trip recently..not too bad on a bone stock new car with under 1500 mileage.

Does anyone know of any dyno stats that support a noticeable difference after swapping in the SP2 exhaust? I read somewhere that the K&N cold air intake system actually makes next to no gains and just sounds way too loud.

I opted out of getting the K&N for the simple fact of oiling and deteriorating life of filter. I have the AEM cold air intake and veerrrrrrry happy with it. I have already cleaned the filter once and it is an easy 15 dollar step, plus it is not easily damaged....
i also have a B&B test pipe and the sp2 exhaust.... other than the occasional flame shooting from exhaust, it didn't fair too bad with gas mileage. I drive to and from work about 20 miles and average 20mpg, driving not so aggressive. going on a 3hr trip today, i will know how that fairs, will do around 75mpg... I believe the K&N reported less gains than the cold air intakes, but slightly louder. I think a pulley set would help you a lot more than the intake would first... at least it seemed that way when i put in my pulleys.

um... switching to a louder intake is much more desirable... i like to hear how my engine is responding... love the rotary but it was waaaaay too quiet for my liking.

I need to find out if a cold air intake other than MazdaSpeed version, would kill the lifetime warranty on the drove drain that they thew in for free on all their new cars.

Hey Guys,
I would love to be able to meet up with you all in Eagan. Im in Moorhead. Im going to be gone for the 4th, but maybe we can do something towards the end of July!!
I took the Rx8 on a 3400 mile road trip out west and then down into the southern midwest. What a great time! I had just put on my new MOMO 19"s and my Falken 452s.
You would not believe some of the looks Rx8s get in the mountain areas.
My wife and I took the Rx8 camping in the mountains in wyoming, and badlands areas of south dakota.
Hope to meet up with you guys soon!

I could probably come out for little while. I got another thing goin on later in the day. I just put on my agency power midpipe with my hks hi power exhaust. It is so loud. I think it might be to loud.
