Michigan owners! Undercoating or rust protection for the winter

My 8 is having his first winter of his life. Since 2004, he was a California boy.

Now, I heard Michigan roads in the winter are covered with insane amounts of salt.

And I've seen an Ad about undercoating and rust protection on the newspaper. The

rust protection service was on sale ($299, regular $399) and I was like... wow...

that's a pain the a**.

The question is, does my 8 going to be need undercoating or rust protection because

of the severe Michigan salts?

And I heard there are car washes that offer washes under the body of the 8...to

get rid of the salts...

Would regular car wash that does the under the body job would be enough to

protect my 8 in the winter?

Thanks.

salt WILL kill your car eventually. Look around; half the cars I see have rust issues. :(

I suggest a winter beater, frankly. Think AWD + winter tires.

I hope I had a spare car to spend the winter...
so I MUST do the undercoating for the rust protection...
Now I really miss CA...

Come to Windsor and get a real oil spray for under 100 bucks. It's completely legal here. I sprayed my rx8 did 2 winters and I have no rust at all. You could drop it off and hang out with me a couple blocks away and have a cold beer while you wait. google Oil Gard, it works awesome.
PM me if you'd like.

I'm originally from Ohio, and so is my 1988 RX7. It was under-coated at a place called Rusty's back in 88, and it is rust-free to this day under the body. It DOES snow there and they DO salt the roads, so it has seen similar conditions to what your car will. Rusty's isnt around anymore... but their work is! I highly recommend a reputable under-coating.

Mi laws prohibit from using "oil" that can drip onto the road, thus causing an environmental breakdown. Ontario has no such law. The Ohio Rusty's place probably used a similar product that we still use here in Ontario. Windsor can't be that far. It would be worth the drive. I sprayed my old ford ranger 4 years in a row and the bare metal on the scratched up fenders didn't even rust.

^ Actually, it was more of a thin, yellow, transluscent rubber gum. I think it may be latex based. Regardless, It works wonders, and it doesnt come off unless you REALLY want it to.

I actually got my car Krowned today and I am just wondering because it was raining really hard after my car got Krowned. I drove about 2 hours in the heavy rain after the Krown. Would this "weaken" the effect of Krown?

Oiled - rode hard and put away wet

I debated getting it coated. Read more and more posts that recommended it. My 04 has only had a few winters on it - and looks good. I guess 140 bucks is cheap of it keeps even one panel from looking bad. I was told the rain does not matter before or after, as the oil displaces the water - and after the spray, water beads off... Not sure if that is true - but I would guess HOT water would lower the viscosity and allow more to flow off.

Windsor Krown is booked until Dec 28th so far - they suggested Leamington but Chatham had on opening today at 8am. any excuse to drive!

I am happy to keep the salt and new deicers off of the skin.

Q
PS minor dripping - due to the cold I'd wager
