Flywheel change done in Detroit/Ann Arbor Area

Anyone out there had the flywheel changed over to either MS or Racing Beat in the Detroit or Ann Arbor area?

I am interested to have it done but would like to use someone who has some experience doing this on an RX8.

Can anyone out there help?

I don't know of anyone who has worked on a RX8 but there are a few places I would trust to work on my car. Once such place is Payne Technologies (pretty sure that's their name) in Troy but thats a bit of a haul from Dexter..

I would suggest a dealership but first it would be too expensive and second, I think my dog knows more about the RX8 then some of their techs

Unfortunately for me, I share your view of dealership techs. I am currently feeling their "effects".

By the way, how much does your dog charge for an oil change?

Would your dog change side markers too? I have not one mechanical bone in my body and would like to get clear markers.

Clears are extremely easy....I think it took me less than 15 minutes using only a screwdriver. You should be able to handle it....there are instructions (with pics) I believe in the DIY forum.

Agree with apotocki.. It takes no more than 30 mins to change both sides.

Johnnyma, I'm doing mine very soon too. They should arrive any day now. It looks pretty easy, based on what I've seen in the DIY.

I also advise taking out the reflectors (as shown in the DIY).....it's a bit tricky to do but I think it looks better.

I was going to try taking those out. What type of tool would you recommend to work best? I was thinking just a flathead screwdriver, or maybe some small needle-nose pliers, but until I see the parts I am not sure.

There is always something to be said about having the right tools for the job...

Oh, and sorry for hijacking this thread... didn't mean too. I'm sorry I don't know of any reputable places to do a flywheel, but read on the boards about the guy who is having issues with his, and it might make you reconsider doing it in the first place.

Agree about the hijacking thread thing...sorry.

Yes, flat blade, needle nose, and a small pair of snips made it very easy. Wiggle the reflector loose, cut it where you can, and use the needle nose to bend it and pull it out.

Yea, I've read that. Doesn't look too bad but I'm afraid of breaking something when taking those reflectors off. Also, is there anything about the legality of clear corners? Sorry, I got nothin about the flywheel either...
