cruise to hell, mi on 9/21
 

another car club i'm a part of is planning a little cruise to hell, mi next sunday. we'll be meeting at the compuware arena in plymouth.

Compuware is two miles from my house, I'll at least stop by, probably go on the drive too. The route they're taking doesn't look that great though, and the time they're doing it is kind of late, there is likely to be traffic.

Are they planning on driving the speed limit? I went out there with a bunch of ms3's and we were taking turns at 70+ mph

it went pretty well. we got caught behind a good amount of traffic here and there but it was still a lot of fun. some of the guys took pics, when they put them up i'll post them over here.

So it was all of you assh0les tearing up my neighbor hood. Hell is part of my hometown, Pinckney.

I don't think we even went over the speed limit on this drive... it was a mustang gt leading the way rofl

lol you must have me confused with someone else, perhaps the mini cooper? He was on the mustangs ass the whole time. I purposely left lots of room between me and the car in front of me so I could go faster around the corners. I think it's pretty obvious I don't want to go with you guys again lol you don't have to tell me not to.

I can vouch for Casdogg's driving style. I may have been the first one on here to post this route for spirited rides.

Regarding tearing it up through the 'hood of Pinkney... a lot of local car clubs love this road. I learned it on an outing with the Michigan Ferrari Owners Club. (Search on here, I posted pics in 2006)

Guys, safety needs to be a #1 priority. Pick a good leader who has this in mind at all times. If you pick a speed demon with no regard for anyone, the entire pack will end up in a heap of trouble. (Such as hurt or arrested.)

Suggestions:
1) The leader MUST know the road like the back of his or her hand. Blind curves, drive way entrances, police hiding spots, typical slick / wet spots, passing zones that oncoming traffic might use.... etc.

As the leader, you take responsibility for the whole pack. You crash beyond a blind hill and you may have 5-6 cars plowing into you. You have to assume traffic is stopped around every corner. Shut the music off and keep your ears and eyes open.

Look ahead beyond the next curve. You need that extra time to react and slow down the pack. If there's a problem, you need to be able to slow the guy behind without setting him into a panic that will cause a chain reaction.

2) Keep space between the cars. You prove nothing by tailgating. You only slow the whole pack down.

3) Only drive at a pace you are comfortable with. Nervous drivers over correct and over brake.

4) Know your car's limits and condition. How's the tire pressure and tread? How are your brakes?

5) Use two way radios with headsets. (If you have a large group.)

6) Someone will need to be a sheepdog. (This is like a second or third leader of the pack.) Occasionally, the group gets separated by a traffic light or a knucklehead taking the wrong turn and leading everyone behind him in the wrong direction. The sheepdog's job is to get the herd back in the right direction.

Arrange for a signal of three high beam flashes to alert drivers ahead that they need to pull over on the side (in a safe straightaway) and wait. Let the sheepdog pass and get to the lost person leading the group away from the front of the pack.

7) Organize events well in advance!!! Post up routes, print maps of the area. (Not just the route.) If you're off the route and lost, you'll need to know cross streets to get back on track.

8) Cell phone list of all the members. Gather it and print it ahead of time. For big groups, I find it handy to have the username, real name, cell # and a small photo of the car to be handy on the list. The leader should organize this and pass it out at the gathering.

9) Respect the locals. This is their home. Don't crap on it. If they are pissed, they call the police. The next loop you do may have the Sheriff waiting for all of you. Then they will accuse you all of street racing instead of speeding. The police know the favorite spots of car clubs. Consider it fortunate that they don't enforce it more strongly.

Keep the music down in the neighborhoods. (Music should be off anyway.) If you have loud exhaust, coast as much as possible and stay off WOT.

ALWAYS assume a kid will run out in the road where there are houses.

ALWAYS assume a deer will run out where there are no houses. (Got the picture?)

A well organized rally can make or break an event. I look forward to spring. Since I've crossed over to hving both a 350Z and an RX8, perhaps I will try to organize a fun run in May for both Z and RX owners. (So long as you boys and girls play nice!)

Wow...I meant my post to be a little joke. I guess I picked up the friendliness of Seattle and replaced my Michigan ways. After seeing how people reacted here, I don't think I would ever go on a group drive with you when I get back from Iraq.

The event was not through this website, it was through a contour website, there were only 2 rx8s there. It was extremely unorganized, no one even knew where they were going or who was leading the drive until a minute before we left the parking lot.
This was the first drive I had been to with this group of people and it will definitely be the last time also.

The mini cooper was the first car in front of me during the whole drive except for about ten minutes when I was behind I believe a blue cobalt. No one else would have been able to tell if I was tailgating or not from where they were (except me of course). If the mini cooper thought I was following too close he should have said something to me. He didn't, end of story. The only thing he said to me when we stopped was the flames coming out of my exhaust were cool. (He was behind me for the short time when the cobalt was in front of me. If he was bothered by how close I was to him I'm sure he would have mentioned it to me.

Ya I'm sure "a few people" could accurately tell how close I was to the mini and commented on it.


If you want to go on a real fun run lance i can give u a link to another website, I have gone with this group at least 3 times and it is very organized and fun. And the route is much better.

^1+ Agreed. Brian knows what he is talking about. I went with him last fall. Even though there was only the 3 of us there I had a blast. We even stop by some restaurant and some boutique store and I ended up getting some shirts and mugs.

Brian what ever happened to Chuck(kors-jan)? I haven't seen him very active on here.

Its kinda pointless for you to send me a link, I will not be back to MI untill Christmas time 2010, or by March 2011. Im currently in the Army and at Ft. Lewis , WA. We have a group out here call "The Winding Road", and have had a very pleasurable time with them.

it's fine if he didn't enjoy himself (we kept running into traffic so it wasn't the greatest run ever... sorry) but no need to bash me or my club for opening it's arms to non-members. simple as that.

I saw Chuck *Kors-Jan" this past July or so. He pulled into my neighbor's driveway shortly after my new neighbors moved in. What a coincidence.

I think this timing was right because he got to see my 350Z in the driveway.
