All kidding aside

All joking aside, I am really disappointed in STL's response to the Rotary Revolution. For the life of me I can't understand why not a single RX-8 owner on here is going ... that just takes all the steam out of any efforts I might put forward to organize things on my own locally. Sad, just sad.

vectorwolf 04-19-2005 01:28 PM

<--- Missed everything.

Not quite sure what ya mean, but I do plan on attending the revolution (all 3 days if possible). What's been said?

ranger4277 04-19-2005 01:51 PM

Don't get too down Ryan, last I heard there are only two RX-8s registered from the ENTIRE state of Ohio.... :(

alnielsen 04-19-2005 01:53 PM

I'm not from STL but this may be why. Other than the racing, which can be done locally or some other time, there doesn't seem to be a lot for the RX8 owner. Everything seem to be for the 7's.
I am performance oriented and I seems that the only way to gain hp is to spend megabucks on the car. Bolt-on parts just don't give the bang for the buck.
I need a reason to go and I haven't been given that reason.

The event has actually tried to cater towards the RX-8 owners this year. The keynote speaker is from Mazda. His job is training dealers/mechanics on the new Renesis motor that is in the RX-8.

Also we were able to get PTP Motorsports to attend as a sponsor and bring their turbo-charged RX-8 for the 8 owners to review.

Most of our sponsors carry parts for both the RX-7 and RX-8.

That and hanging out with 34 other RX-8 owners and 200 rotary owners. :D

I hope some more show up at the door. It's a great time to be had by all regardless of the vehicle you drive.

keynote22 04-19-2005 02:43 PM

Thank you for your input. We love to hear suggestions.

The big question for us is always...what do you want to see?

Being part of the rotary community and associating with other rotary owners in person is a big plus. This is the largest gathering of rotary vehicles in the US. Being part of this sort of event is why I trecked to Seven Stock...just to be there!

Being able to talk to the designers of and attend informational seminars from the companies with the go fast parts. Listen to them talk about what they are working on and how to get the most bang for the buck? There are several companies that are 8 specific.

Learning from other rotary owners what to and what not to do?..sure that can be done on this forum but being able to hear an exhaust system is what got me to buy what I did. Seeing what someone else did is my primary motivation for attending events.

Deep discounts on mazda speed and factory dress up parts?

Listening to a presentation from the man responsible for renesis issues in America?

and unique to this rotary only event, the numerous driving experiences!
...just to name a few

We will continue to strive to meet the needs of the rotary community and all the 8 owners. We will continue to try to offer as complete of a rotary experience as we can.

Thanks guys for putting together a great program this year.

I think some of the 8 owners don't quite "get it" yet as many of them, myself included, are new to the rotary community and have not been participating in these kind of events in the past. I also would venture to guess as a class they more mature (tied down, less adventurous) than a significant element of the 7 community.

That said, I am really surprised as well and somewhat disappointed that more 8 owners are not attending.

One thing that might help is a different time of the year. The weather right now is beautiful, but who knows about the end of April in Indy - too iffy for me to plan on. Not gonna sit in 50° rain all weekend.

Just my 2˘

BOOSTD 7 04-20-2005 10:58 AM

RX8 owners sure love making excuses don't they?

khtm 04-20-2005 11:06 AM

I'd go if it was within an 8 hour drive. Man y'all suck ass down there. I feel your pain BOOSTD.

BOOSTD 7 04-20-2005 03:10 PM

Calgary is only a 8 hour drive? Wow ...

At least the RX-7 guys here like having some fun.

garlandrx 04-20-2005 03:41 PM

i know this isnt my regional forum or whatever but i went to rotary reveloution last year.. all the way from dallas and had a blast! even if you can race locally or however you put it this event is so much fun.. its awesome meeting people and partying in the hotel and all of that... i think it even rained last year and everyone i talked to had so much fun... if i had the oppertunity again this year i would go but i dont.. but if you are close or can take time off and go it is well worth it :D just my .02

zelig2 04-20-2005 10:58 PM

Well I'm having a Halo2 party at my house instead. But then again I'm a looser.

BlueRenesis82 04-22-2005 11:00 PM

Rather than bagging on RX-8 owners Boostd maybe you should take into account that some of us have to PAY FOR these brand new cars that we have...sometimes that entailed working more that you would like. For the record I was at Road America this weekend and was the ONLY ROTARY POWERED CAR there.

Thanks

vectorwolf 04-24-2005 10:06 PM

Ok... we didn't even get 50 degree weather this time. I seriously hope this event can be set at least a month later next year. It's just too iffy planning something in April with the dramatic climate changes we always have here. I DID make it out to the event, but didn't stick around long enough to really learn anything or check out many of the vendors. I'm sure we could all have handled 50-60 degree weather and rain, but the sub-freezing wind chills and the threat of snow kinda ruined the mood for everyone. :(

keynote22 04-25-2005 08:43 AM

Thanks for all the feed back guys.

I appreciate boosted trying to drum up enthusiasm for the event in a foot stomping sort of way :D

Mike (michrx7) and I will continue to work to meet the needs of the 8 owners. We were happy to bring the head guy responsible for the renesis motor to the show to address all renesis issues. Next year we would like to bring the guy who designed the car and the president of Mazda’s RX8 division!

We understand concerns about what non racers can do at the event. My 7 is my baby and I do not regularly beat on it on autocross tracks even though it’s already paid for. Next year we are debating about tiered entry for racers and non racers. We have a great non racing idea for next year brought to us by an attendee.

The Revo is being moved to later in the year. We are working hard no to conflict with Major Indy events and other rotary community events.
