Winter Tires
 

So I'm out in Clearfield, Utah and winter appears to be descending rapidly. This will be my first winter with the 8 and I'm concerned about how well it will do with the ice on the hills and such. so i have a two part question:

1. Will all-season potenza tires be fine?

2. If not, what are you guys using for winter tires?

if u got money go get a set of blizzacks money well spent.. but for now im using toyo proxes 4 Mud and snow tires still waiting for first winter also.:dragster:

RX8 235/40R-18 Hankook IceBear W300s = Cannot ascent slightly slick conditions.

This year, the car will have:
17x7 wheels
215/55R-17 Blizzak WS-60s or Hankook iPikes.

Good move. 17" rims with those taller and narrower aggressive dedicated snow tires should be excellent.

I won't lie...RWD cars just aren't that good in the snow, especially when you're coming from an AWD car with snow tires.

nice, I have a quote from Firestone for the Potenza's 18" tires. all season Uni-T AQ II package Pole Pos Bl (whatever that is) Total bottom line cost for the whole deal is $1,001.33. yes I know Blizzacks on 17" wheels is the ultimate way to go and smartly but its expensive. I don't want to fork out new wheels and blizzacks so my next option is to go All Season on the 18" wheels. Anyone? I noticed someone else is asking about the All Season Potenzas too.

I live in Green River Wyoming and go to Rock Springs every day for work. About 15 miles each way on the interstate. We do not salt our roads so they get very bad in the winter. I bought a set of 225-40-18 Dunlop SP Winter Sport M2 tires and they are awsome. These tires and the traction control and a little commen sence I do just as well as any other car or truck on the road. The only problem is starting off in deeper snow but that isnt the tires fault its the cars. I use it as my daily driver and havent had many problems with it yet. Once last year during a bad storm we had 8 inches on the ground and still comming down I got to work A ok and had only troubles starting from a dead start. Take the traction control off during slick starts and put it back on imediatly after you start rolling. These tires are as good as my Riken Rapters on the dry roads too. I wish I woulda just left the winter tires on it and saved some money, They grip just as well and I think they ride a little better with less noise.

Ps check ebay and you can get some great deals. I got mine from a guy whose lease was up and had them on rims and I got them for 670.00 with wheels and shipping. I got them with wheels cheaper than I could have bought them at a tire shop for just the tires. Now I have a winter set and summer set of wheels and tires.
