Welcome zeblien! Did you say your Shinka is a convertible?

zeblien 08-24-2006 09:09 AM

Yes I did. Almost as functional as the mx-5's. I will post am image of it before sunday.

Well I can't wait to check it out on Sunday. See ya there!

Kewl 08-24-2006 09:54 AM

Talk about big time mod's to your 8....convertible. Not sure I would want to cut off the roof since it is such an important structural element of the overall car design. Can't wait to see the pictures.

BTW, I think I can make Sunday!

zeblien 08-24-2006 10:58 AM

So looks like five 8s So far.

NMOcho 08-24-2006 04:00 PM

Sorry I missed it this weekend... hopefully I'll see all you guys at the next Auto-X!

NMOcho 08-28-2006 03:26 PM

Figure I would post this in two spots...

Hi All,

Well the trip was a blast! As always.. All that didn't go sorry that you couldn't make it. But it was fun, good food, drinks and laughs... and aaa some screams of terror... from my car... and others LOL... Madrid was nice, but very busy.. cold beers hit the spot.

en fuego and I head out of Madrid and went east on 334 which takes us back to Edgewood. Note zeblien it was good that you continued on to ABQ and not the mountain road. We were doing a brisk 80+ up “Mountain Mother Fucker”.. as the Santa Fe Sheriff advised us. Let’s just say at the height of the pass, going about 70 MPH or so in a 45 mph zone (Sheriff advised 35mph zone). LOL… we flew past a Sheriff, he did not have radar on, but knew we were taking advantage of the cars performance. So once Sheriff rounded us up to a stop, he approached with a firm look on his face… stepping to en fuego’s red 8. The sheriff then made his way to my car, asking me how fast I was going. I politely lied and said 50 or so… LOL… he informed me that my buddy had admitted to enjoying the curves of the road. So after some more small talk, sheriff ran our information. As we were both clean the sheriff came back and was much nicer and explained that we have some impressive cars to be doing such high speeds on “Mountain Mother Fucker”, which the local cyclist and neighbors call it. LOL he also admitted if he had as nice of cars he would probably be doing the same. Well after some good laughs he let us go on our way.. NO Tickets given that day…  However, our return rate of speed was much lower at that point, tails between our legs… LOL.. But a great experience. It would have been interesting if all five of us had been driving.. LOL..

Kewl 08-28-2006 03:40 PM

Speak for yourself! Those guys carrying guns make me nervous! It is good to see that washing the car paid off - nothing like being 'clean', according to the officer. Wait...was he talking about you two and not the cars? Clean! You sure about that?

I guess it was a good thing that neither car was Silver, then you really would have been in trouble. BTW who was leading this pack of two as you flew over the mountain?

Glad to hear it all turned out okay. It could have spoiled an otherwise fun day.

zeblien 08-28-2006 04:33 PM

Wow Im glad I didnt go. I havent told the guy who owns my 8 that I have it. (shh hes in New York and doesnt know). either way, Lucky. A ticket sure would have ended the day quickly. Just wait untill adaptive optical paint becomes availible, that will help things.

NMOcho 08-28-2006 06:48 PM

Yes no curse of the silver 8's.. Car clean, driver riders clean.. and background check clean.. LOL .. en fuego was leading.. but I was very close behind.. It's was in the middle of nowhere for crying out loud.. But it actually was a great ending to the day..

en fuego 08-29-2006 09:03 AM

What a trip! Thanks to everyone that made if out for the drive. Ona and I had a great time and enjoyed meeting a few new faces (Liz, Fred and Eric).

The ending wouldn't have been so great if we had actually gotten the tickets. I have no idea what the fine is for going 30+ miles over the limit but I'm sure I would have to sell an organ to pay for it. I'm never sure if honesty is the best policy when dealing with the fuzz, but it worked this time. I guess we will need to get our stories correct before the next encounter....LOL. My first road trip with the gang, my first time leading, and my (our) first lucky break. It makes a great story though.

We'll miss those of you that are attending the AutoX this weekend as we will be out of town. Get out there and Kill it! We will see you all at the next event.

Thanks again!

MadDog 08-29-2006 10:07 AM

Alright, there's apparently a story that needs to be told here... fess up...

zeblien 08-29-2006 04:11 PM

Btw, on my engine, (first one thank you), i averaged 21.5 mpg during this trip. Not quite the 24mpg advertised, but its getting there.

stinger 08-31-2006 07:19 PM

Well zeblien you have to remember that the advertised MPG is for consistant highway driving at 55 MPH only. So doing 45 to 60 MPH in 2nd & 3rd gear up a twisting and winding road does not help it. Nor does the 85 to 90 MPH while heading to Madrid. So I would have to say after the heavy footing that was done on Saturday that is a very respectable MPG!

stinger 08-31-2006 07:25 PM

Hey MD? Where have you been hiding?? Missed you on the trip. How is the 12 psi doing on the 8? Have you been out to the drag strip lately?

Kewl 08-31-2006 09:17 PM

MD I agree, you've been hiding on us. We had something for you at the Saturday meet but sadly you weren't there to receive it! Maybe next time...if we still have it that is.

zeblien 09-01-2006 08:44 AM

Heh stinger. I ment 21.5mpg in a positive way.
