Daytime Running Lights

TMParts:

I made an inquiry with a Canadian Dealer and here's what I got back:

If your rx-8 was purchased In the States, it is not equipped with day time running lights. However, a day time running light kit is available at your local Mazda dealer.
good luck.

Do you have anything for this? Thanks!

Tinkerer, you can easilly rewire your fog lights (for FREE!) to function as daytime running lights. See this thread for more info. For that matter, with a little creativity and experimentation, you could probably do the same thing with your headlights... but you may not want to, as it will shorten the life of your Xenon HIDs if you have them.

Anyway, hope this helps!

Omicron, how hard is this for somewhat completely lacking in skill such as myself. I got my splash guards on the front and rear and I'm afraid that was the pinnacle of my abilities. But I'd sure like to rewire those fog lights.

It's easy as pie. Really. Takes about 15 minutes end to end.

Steps:

- Locate the engine compartment fuse block and remove the cover. The fog relay is the second relay from the bottom right (actually in the third position, but the second relay socket is blank).

- Locate and release the four push tabs around the edge of the fuse block and gradually lift the fuse block up in it's housing. Rotate the fuse block so that you can see the underside. Be careful not to stress ANY wires.

- Locate the light brown wire coming out of the underside of the fog relay. Cut this wire about 4 inches down from the fuse block. Cap off the lower part of this wire (leading away from the relay) with a wire nut.

- Use a "red" inline wiretap to tap the light brown wire coming from the fog relay into the white with red stripe wire leading away from the "ACC" relay. Do not cut this white/red wire, just tap the brown into it with the wire tap. The ACC relay is in the 5th position in the same row as the fog relay, or 2 positions to the right of the fog relay if you look at the fuse box from the right.

See the link above for nice clear pictures. :D

I still plan on doing the fog wire mod, BUT, what I'd obviously prefer is the kit, if it exists. Key on -- lights on, key off -- lights off. That's #1 on my list. Anything beyond that is merely an option. If there's a kit and it's reasonable, I'm buying it...
