N/A dyno tune and a 27whp improvement thanks to Mazsport!
I want down to mazsport for tuning of my interceptor this past weekend and boy what an experience. First of all i want too give my thanks to everyone at mazsport. Scott, betsy, all you guys are extremely nice and easily the best service of any business i have ever come across. When i left, i left my camera and my engine cover at the dyno and they called me and told as awell as offered to just ship them to me because i was trying to get from tampa to atlanta that night and i was sitting in traffic at 4:30 in tampa. Again, unparelleled service! I will definitely continue business with you and i recommend you to anyone and everyone. On the dyno, my preliminary run came up with a pethetic 169whp. I was afraid that i would top out in the 180's. Scott got to work and got it up into the 180's when he realized that the intake filter is garbage. Took that off and gained 5whp. I had always read the forums and it says the intake and exhaust are nothing but sound mods. Well, that is not true. When getting tuned it does make a difference, and if your not careful and do your homework you will end up losing power. He continued his work and raised it to a pretty sweet 196whp. He couldnt get much more out of it so we stopped at that point. 169-196, Thats a 27whp improvement! I was very excited. Scott also told me that once i get my spark plugs and coil packs replaced, i may very well break over 200whp. The ride home was much better then the ride down and once i got home and got the stock intake box back on and it helped that much more.Everything is perfect except one little bog at 3k rpm using light throttle but its no big deal. Im not sure if im going to keep he stock intake and use a k&n filter with the ram air or if im going to get the revi also. We will see. So needless to say, i have a few parts to get and play with. I will post up the dyno when i get it. I learned alot this weekend and again, i cant praise mazsport enough! I have a neighbor who has connections with a dyno here in atlanta, so i hope i can get a new dyno as soon as i get the new sparks, coil packs and intake!

That's a damned impressive gain for a tune-up; obviously money well spent. I'd sure do it.
Here are a couple caveats, though.
K&N filters - read up on them, everything you can find (but ignore their advertising), before you put one on. There are K&N true believers, but after having used them on motorcycles and cars for quite a few years,I'm no longer one of them. They get their good flow numbers with a clean filter, but when they're clean they pass a lot of trash, from Dixie cups to small birds. By the time you get 'em dirty (and filtration efficiency improves to what I regard as an acceptable level) they don't pass any more air than any other decent filter. If you think they're worthwhile because you clean 'em rather than replace 'em, well if that's a good reason for you, go to it. I'd rather just drop a fresh stock one in when needed.
Ram air - don't bother, unless you just want imaginary horsepower. You've got to be running at triple digit speeds before any HP effect is measurable, and even then it is minimal.
Another dyno run - dynos can vary widely from one make, or even installation or hookup or operator, to another. For instance, same Harley, same dyno, sequential runs, we got about a five HP variation just by how tight we cinched down the straps. If you want a good comparative measure, you need to go back to the same dyno, and if you really want a good number, the same tech ought to do the hookup and runs. You got a 27 HP gain from your tuneup. It would be shame to think you lost four or five of that, when in fact, it was just the dyno or operator.

This is curious! I also Dyno'd my car but I got 193.4 wHP average in 3 pulls. I only have the Greddy exhaust with a K&N filter.
It's kinda strange that you only got 169 wHP. Will a different Dyno yield results that different?
Just curious cause I am interested in Scotts Interceptor....

I have K&N (been on for 30000 km) & ram air duct .
While I don't think the ram air does anything at low speed - in certain situations IE after sustained idle , it will pull intake temps down very quickly . This will help with HP robbing heat .
I think it is worth having .

Caveman read the post above yours from Pilgrim. He mentions that many things will affect dyno results.

I did however go back to my Dyno graph and I was off on the numbers. I actually Dyno'd at 185.7 wHP. I still do not see how my Dyno gives me 16wHP more than his...It just does not make sense to me.
My exhaust and air filter should have only given me at the most like 8wHP.
So a stock Rx8 should be in the neighborhood of 178wHP.

But wouldn't a ram air style intake put the intake farther (slightly but still farther) from the engine thus intake cooler air? Sure it wouldn't gain hp but it would help maintain hp otherwise lost too heat.
edit: Haha, I come back just now to realize my post has was answered above.
