i called a couple mazda dealers and they seemed unsure as to whether or not, if they actually found this rear swap had been done, they would void a warranty due to it lol. it's been keeping me on the edge, because i've wanted to do this swap bad.

In order to replace a ring and pinion, the entire diff must be rebuilt so there's no way that they can warranty the diff afterward.

How much does it cost to get a rebuild like this with the 4.777 already in it ?

Just curious right now, I might as well add this to my "to do" list of upgrades :) (unless I go turbo/SC)

$1750 without a core unit. Built by the wise Engman of course.

Has anyone seen one of these actually installed in an 04-08? Have any of your customers done it Mazmart? Would love to speak to them. I am told that it will "likely" work but it is not 100 % certain that it will.

We've installed the FEED 4.777 and that was not designed to be in the RX8, with an adaptor around the pinion and a huge spacer for the ring gear that was not flat that we had to machine flat and hardware that was definitely not Mazda. This, on the other hand was designed to be in an RX8 differential. I don't see much chance of a problem. I've sold 2 of these 09 r&p to a member of this club who lives in the Caribbean and speaks spanish as his first language. If he chooses to respond then you'll get your answer, otherwise there's only one left at this price.

Paul.

rx8thunder 03-14-2009 03:31 PM

^ Thanks for the reply.

I hope he responds as I would like to know whether it can be dropped in without any modification like you had to do with the FEED unit.

I got a local quote of $500 to install but no guarantee it will work without modification and who knows what that would add to the price.

Assuming no modification, how much should I expect to pay for installation?

Mazmart 03-14-2009 04:10 PM

$500 is the labor we would charge if we had your unit here, out of the car. Whoever is doing this type of job needs to be experienced.

Paul.

It was my car that Paul is talking about with the FEED gear. It runs flawlessly thanks to Mr. Engman's workmanship - it is smoother than stock ever was. I would not hesitate to have them build me one with the Mazda gear if I were you.

Was kind of hoping that the 09 RX8 diff could be used without the need for all of the extra work required to get the FEED unit to. That's the feedback that is missing for me at this point.

Hi guys, Im the one that Paul is talking about, one of the 4.77 sets is allready install and tested but in a FD rx-7, this car used to have a 4.44 from a 2006 RX-8 you only have to get some side spacers that fit the backlash of the dif, but that is for an rx-7, but I did used the same spacers for the 4.44 and the 4.77

the RX-8 I will give you an answer in a couple of minutes, Im trying to get in contact with my mecanic

With the core you'd be looking at $1350 and, as I've mentioned before, I can provide every ratio from 3.909 to 4.778 (ALL AT THE SAME PRICE) :)

Paul.

You have to change the spacers to get it right, this is not hard to do for someone that knows what he is doing

Emphasis on "KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING". :)

the 4.77 ring and pinion fit with the spacer from an FD Diff, I think you call the spacer over there shims or shimes, something like that
