What DFW dealerships are not trying to sell above MSRP?

I have only checked with one and that was Hiley (Ft. Worth) right after they got their first batch mid July. A salesman told me they were selling them 3k over MSRP and was for the most part a rude jerk. I had already test drove one (a red base model with $27,200 MSRP) and had talked to another salesman that was not in that day.
Since I was not ready at that point I did not press the issue. What have you guys been seeing? I want one but not bad enough to get jerked as I see it. If it means taking a guy in Albuequrque up on the offer he made then I will do that.

Freemans never sells over list

A number of us have bought our cars from Freeman's in Irving because of the ethical and fair way they treat all of their customers. They never sell cars for over list.

Give Larry Chase, the General Manager or Craig Martin, Sales Manager a call at 972-438-2121. Tell them you were recommended by Brian (boowana) from the rx8forum and they will certainly treat you right.:D

Thanks! I just got off the phone with Craig and I am going out there this evening. He is having me meet with a "Jason".
Hopefully I can get this going. I appreciate the heads up. The guy at Hiley really pissed me off and tried to tell me that I would not find anyone selling them at msrp.
Craig confirmed that Freeman is just as you said :D

A guy PM'ed me and told me that Hiley was not selling them over MSRP. So I called Randall (the guy he recommended) and he just happened to be a guy I talked to on the day I test drove the red base model.
There was a guy that had bought their very first 8, a titanium the day before. He had it back in service getting prepped and inspected. He was a cool guy and I hope he visits the board here.
Anyway I think Randall had sold him the car and he was talking with us. But I was actually up there to talk to another salesman who I had already talked to on the phone.
At the time I was thinking "damn, I'd rather deal with this guy" because we had already been shooting the **** and he was not trying to "sell" me because he knew I was waiting for the other salesguy.
The salesguy I had it was his first day and little did I know it was to be his last day. When I called the next day and asked for him I was just told he was not in yet and asked if "I could help".
I was like okay I want to talk about the red RX8. He telss me "yeah, the one for $30,200. I told him "No the one for $27,200". He said that they were selling them for 3k over and no less in a rather cocky manner and said that everybody else was doing it as well (kinda like saying "tough ****".
I was livid. I wish I would have went back and tracked down Randall but I did not think of it and I didn't know his name anyway.
After I talked to him today I realized he was the guy I spoke with and he remembered talking to me while his customer waited on his car. He told me that he will get me hook up at MSRP and they are only 3 miles from the house.
If that does not work though I will go to Freeman, and if that don't work....
But thanks to you guys you have got me in touch with two people at two dealerships that it seems I will be able to work with either of them. Thanks guys!!!

Hiley Mazda in Arlington didn't even mention anything other than MSRP and suggested that anyone charging anything above that should be avoided.

Freeman Irving and Hiley Arlington both have been stating MSRP.

Freeman was listing MSRP even when we got a walkup salesman one day when we popped in just to see them in person.

The Hurst store has the little sticker in the window with 'Market Value Adjustment", although when I was there it was 1500 over MSRP, but they soon dropped to 500 over, then to MSRP.

A little wandering around, some phone calls, you'll be able to easily determine who you want to go work with or not.

Wayne Sharp at Freeman Mazda and Wyatt Mitcham at Hiley Mazda, both good guys and both quoted MSRP right from the the first conversation, never any 'tactics' to try to get more.

Market value adjustment? That's a crock. Common sense says that Mazda factored in a profit margin at MSRP and decided that was a fair profit for the dealerships.
None of the money beyond the MSRP is going to Mazda so that means it adds directly to the dealers profits.
One thing that is for sure is that if you ever do play that kind of game you better hope everybody else in town or else you sure come out smelling pretty bad afterwards.
One thing is for sure is that if things get the least bit odd I will walk out. I'm not putting any money down for anything. They requested a $500 deposit if they had to bring one in but I won't put down any money not knowing if some game may come into play when we get all the numbers back.

Thumbs up

New to the Forum.

Just picked up my RX-8 from Hillard Mazda in Fort Worth, paid msrp. My salesman, Rick Campbell, was very low key and had no problems with my multiple visits it took to make up my mind. In your in Fort Worth you might give him a call.

Well like I said before that the first person I talked to was Randall while waiting to talk to the one day salesman and I liked the guy. He is at the closest location and has promised MSRP and called me back with a list of cars at different levels of options. There were some promising cars but the only base was in a green.
but there were a couple that were close to base and might still fit my budget.
I was going out there after work and my fan clutch went out on me coming home so I had to fix that
For those that noticed the thread about the Weds night meet with the RX7 Club guys at CafeRPM I have been going there every week since we (the 7 club) were first INVITED out by the owner. I thought that was really nice that someone actually didn't mind a bunch of loud guys/girls/cars around
Anyhow on Thursday a bunch of us go to City Streets in Fort Worth (Sundance Square)
So it screwed things up that I could not meet with Randall tonight. I asked him to come out to the Cafe and meet everybody. He said he will give it serious thought.
Us RX7 guys have been hanging out for a pretty long time and some for many years for that matter. It is a pretty tight community and most of us want an 8 but some just will have to wait longer than others. There are a lot of younger guys but they are all good people.

Hopefully Randall can make it out and bring his list of cars and prices for me to read over because it really got confusing as hell on the phone going over so many.
If anybody tries to weasel in on a car that takes my fancy just remember who asked him out!
It will be nice to have you 8 owners out there that have had a while to drive and really learn the cars so I can get some advice from an owners aspect. It would probably be good for him to hear the likes and dislikes as well.
Things like which is the best package for the buck as close to 30k for example.
I really look forward to meeting you 8 owners. Some of us hardcore guys that have machined pports, pinned housings, etc. are still in the dark on the renesis motors even with all the reading we have found.
I never thought I would see the day that Mazda would bring back the rotary, let alone pack another 100 horses on basically the same motor naturally aspirated and getting incredible emmissions to boot!!! Damn, I'm sorry guys but there is no less than 6 sets of rotor housings, side plates, eshafts, etc. in my garage floor right now So yes I do get a little wound up talking rotary

Haha! Last night I had been digging through some of my renesis pics before I made that post. Looking at the side exhaust port pics and the wonder of just how far you could tweak the intake ports with a die grinder got the best of me. :p
I talked to Randall and he is coming out tonight with all the cars available, their options and how they play on the price.
I may bring a pport housing for Scott to use as a display and so the newbies can see one first hand.

The Green is very dark. Looked black in the shade on the dealer's porch. In the sun it is still dark but has a lot of sparkle.

Passed by Freeman Mazda in Hurst today, they had 6 to 8 of them out in the front row of the parking lot...don't know if they have the Green.

Hiley Hurst had a green one on their lot, IIRC.

The color was very dark, almost a black in the fading sunlight while I was there.

It looked ok, but I wasn't as impressed as I was with the brilliant black, velocity Red, or the titanium gray.

Steve, can I live in your garage? I don't take up much space :D

Why the one lone Japanese car in a sea of American Muscle? Seems like the antithesis...

Talking

rx7gslse, I tend to buy cars that are unusual or unique in some way. I had a first generation RX-7 GSL way back in the 80's and fell in love with the early design shots of the RX-8. Also had a couple of 300ZX's in the 90's, pre-ordered a new 350Z, kept the car two weeks, very dissapointed in the stiff ride (some of my other cars ride stiff but have the HP to make it worth while, none of them rode as bad as the new Z...)

Always liked the rotary engine, nothing else feels quite the same.
I think the fact that it has a very nice ride and room for 4 is just a bonus.

Steve

Did I mention that I have a very understanding wife?

nothing wrong with the odd & unique.. I have a penchant for the same...

Corvair... can you say yenko?
70 Chevell SS454 LS6(or was it LS4? drat!)
1997 Camaro SS 30th Aniv with the LT-4 (yeah, they actually did make a few)
90 SS454 truck
GNX
1972 Suburban 4x4
ok, I'll stop for now... I've hijacked Mike's thread enough, and I haven't even gotten out of the GM cars, let along the european ones...

I don't understand the fascination withe the prowlers, but other than that the list is long and distinguished. I'm just suprised there is no GN in there...

My experiences on purchasing my new RX-8:

I first tried Hiley in Fort Worth since a friend purchased one there for sticker price. Test drove a yellow one they've had trouble selling because it's yellow. My friend indicated that they told him they'd make a better deal on it than his sticker price for a red one. They insisted that they could only sell it for over sticker. When I said that a friend had just purchased one there for sticker price they still insisted on selling over sticker. They insisted all the other dealers were doing this and that I would not be able to find a better price in this market. BS.

Called a variety of other dealers and pretty much the same story. The best local dealer I found was Freeman in Irving. Talked to George there. He was very nice. If I wasn't determined to pay under sticker I would have happily purchased from him. Though, I've never paid sticker for a car yet. If you don't mind paying sticker price in the current market, then go see this man!

I decided to go out of state when all of the volume Mazda dealers in Texas that I contacted wouldn't play ball. I had a dealer in Arkansas that would go under sticker. And one dealer in Maryland that would do even better. But they're too far away to be worth it. The dealer I first got the deal from in Arkansas didn't have the color I wanted -- but everything else was right. Contacted North Point and they matched the deal.

I bought a one way ticket to Little Rock and drove my bright red car home. The NAV system doesn't work. Someone in the service department needs to be thumped for not noticing that during prep for delivery earlier in the week. They could have contacted someone and potentially fixed it before I arrived Saturday. However I see a related thread describing the same problem and no resolution from Mazda yet. I think the factory or port people forgot to load the software. The data DVD seems fine.

Other than that, North Point Mazda sales folks were top notch and I still ended up below sticker even after my cheap one way airline ticket. The drive back to Denton was about 5.5 hours due to observing the speed limits and slow traffic/construction on 380.

My advice is that if you're in the D/FW area and don't mind the drive, call Jason Buchannan or Jason Satterfield (North Point) at 501-945-5353 or 800-490-6894 and tell them Martin from the rx-8 forum sent you.

Try Hancock Mazda of Mesquite.....Lawrence was extremely friendly and had a blast with their financing people (I was impressed being my first car purchase...)

Spent 2.5 years driving a Toyota Rav4 '97, gave my wife and me the chance to save up quite some. And I was fed up with the feel and driveability of such an economy tiny-SUV.

I guess we leaped to the other end of the spectrum, but I am glad we did. Obviously monthly payments are going to be a bit different from the Rav's, but we should be able to make it without any hickups.

BTW, the Toy. was already there so I didn't have to go through the shopping process...buying the 8 was a totally new experience for me, besides that fact that I been living in the US for 3 years only.
