Are there any good shops/dealership in the Plano Area?

Hey everyone, I just bought my first RX-8 and I'm looking for a reputable shop and maybe a dealership (to check for any outstanding recalls).

I'm in a bit of a time crunch, I'm leaving town for business and I'd like to drop the car off and pick it up (or have a friend pick it up) when I'm back next week.

Thanks!

Depending on how far you want to go...

I've always had a pleasant experience with El Dorado Mazda up in McKinney. It's a bit of a drive though...

Hehe, that's interesting. I was really interested (I actually put a deposit down) on a car they were selling, but they couldn't deliver what they promised. I'm not entirely sure they'd be happy to see me again :)

I am intrigued. Care to elaborate?

Nothing serious, they had an '05 RX-8 in stock that was right at the top of my budget, but the car had some hideous-looking chrome wheels on it. I wound up leaving the lot when they wouldn't reduce the price enough for me to replace the wheels.

As I was just getting back onto 75, they called me back and said they had an '08 RX-8 in the garage that they had just bought. They asked me if I'd be interested in buying the car if they swapped the wheels. We haggled a bit, and agreed that they'd put the wheels on the car and I'd pick it up the next day.

The next day the sales guy called and said the wheels from the '08 wouldn't fit (turns out they were the 16" wheels off an automatic) and tried to talk me into buying the car for the same price with the ugly wheels. I told the sales guy I'd be happy to buy the car, but he'd have to knock $1600 off the price so I could buy new wheels and tires. He said he'd see what he could do and had his manager call me a couple hours later. But all his manager tried to do was sell me new wheels (that I hadn't seen) for $600, I told the manager no. My sales guy called me back later and said they were calling old customers who had bought RX-8s to see if they were interested in buying new wheels and getting the stock wheels back.

Right about this time, the sales guy got a little difficult. He started to get real persistent about me buying the car with the wheels I didn't like and he stopped pretending to be interested in what I wanted to buy. I told him yesterday that it was either stock wheels at the price we negotiated or it was the ugly wheels and $1600 cheaper. He asked basically if the wheels were a deal-breaker, and for like the 10th time I explained how much I didn't like those wheels.

I didn't think it was a negative experience, I thought they were professional (aside from not really having any concern at all for what I wanted) and it seemed like they worked hard to try and hold their end of the deal. It just didn't work out, and there were enough other cars that I liked that I was able to go back to my "Plan B" car.

If you don't need a dealership there is a Cobb Tuning shop that just opened here in Plano, they might be able to help you out or Rotary Performance in Garland. If I have to go to the dealer I go to Town North Mazda in Richardson.

Harsh.

I did some other searching, and it seems like you have been able to purchase a fine rotary automobile. Congrats, and enjoy!

Thanks! I feel pretty good about it either way, now I just want to get back from my business trip and cruise around the metroplex :)

I'm very anti-Eldorado myself from my purchasing experience.

Town North was pretty good, but I haven't had mine there for a while. Lately I've only been taking it to Classic in Denton.

I'm anti Town North Mazda myself. They didn't treat me like a buyer when I went there to look at the car. I guess some punk ass 22 year old isnt serious about buying sports cars =D

I bet they're kicking themselves now though.

I'd like to echo creto's words a bit.. classic of denton seems top noch. I used to take it to hiley of hurst and got the WORST service out of the whole DFW metro area and then recently switch to Denton even though its a longer drive.

Those people get me out fast (faster than they usually quote me for) compared to it taking twice as long, and treat you like a customer should be treated.

+1 for Classic of Denton.

I made an appointment for Monday at Town North, based on everyone's feed back I thought I'd give them a shot. Sounds like they have some sort of "clinic" on Saturday too, where they'll put it up on a lift and look over your car with you there. I made an appointment for that too.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm still in the market for more suggestions, I'd rather find a local shop that I can trust (I'm not necessarily the biggest "dealership" service department fan).

Penny will treat you right - she's, hands down, my all time favorite service advisor in my 22 years of driving.

yea, town north is pretty good. i havent really had a good experience with penny (i think she bitched me out once for putting synthetic in), but Mike handled my engine replacement and he was really good to work with!

Im a big fan of town north, bought my car there and they have always done my warranty work without question. and over in garland there is a place called rotary performance which alot of my local friends with 7's say is great.
