Texas Laws

Does anybody know, what are the laws in Texas about tenting, dB max noise and such. California is horrible sticklers about that stuff.

I believe maximum window tinting is 20%, which in actuality is pretty dark. I don't know if the state even tests for db levels during the required state inspections. I do know that in certain high population counties, smog testing is a requirement, so make sure that equipment is up to spec. In other, more rural counties, most inspectors don't even look under the car or even open the hood. They just check to see if all lights, horn, brakes etc are working.

Oh, you must have current liability insurance as well.

Legal tint percentage on the front side windows is 35%, alot of people go 20% all the way around, but if you get a picky cop you will get a ticket for 20% on the front.

Agreed, the back can go down to 5%, but the sides is 35%..which is pretty light IMO.

i did 35% on all the windows to keep it consistent - and it looks fine to me

What will pass inspection and what is actually legal are 2 different things. Keep in mind that a 25% tint will not be legal. Modern glass also has a tint factor of about 5-7% on it as well and it's the total % of light passage that is the determining factor and not what the tint rating itself is.

-hs- yes, I am moving near Kerville.

-rotarygod- I will have to be carefull when I have it tented, thanks for the info.

Kerville is a nice place, but be wary of the small town cops in the vicinity. There is a college nearby and they love to hassle anyone they deem engaged in "youthful" activity. You may want to wait until you move to get the tinting done, and then ask a few reputable shops what the laws are looking like; they keep a close eye on pending legislation.

Welcome to Texas!
