RX8 1st car for 16 y.o.? Really? (OKC)

So, I've been going to school at francis tuttle rockwell campus for some time now.. I haven't lived in Edmond, mostly on te southside, and some of the stuff I see is kinda shocking. Number one, prices for the same restraunts on the S. Side are much higher on the North side (far north, near Edmond), and quality/quantity is MUCH lower. Also, food that is common on the S. Side is rebranded on the northside and sold as a premium.

Anyways, to continue to my point: 16 y.o. whose 1st car is a brand new RX-8. What are their parents thinking??

this school as 3 teen girls who own RX-8's and one male.
All are sporting 2010 models.

Not tooo bad right? All of them have major dings, scratches, and dents in them. 2010 models.

I was in a building last week, and in an enclosed area inside this building. I look out as a Red RX-8 pulls in, and this girl SLAMS her door against the truck next to her (the truck was pretty far away, not like if it was right next to her.) She hit so hard I could hear it through this building and inside a room. She even left the door wedged against it while she was checking her phone, then eyed it a sec, shut her door (didnt check for damages) and chuckled as she walked away with her friend. When she came in, I asked if she knew any mechanics that work on rotaries.

Her response: (looks in disgust for someone actually talking to her) "Rotorrr.... Uh my dad takes it to dealer" then rolls eyes and walks away. Hmm. Smug.

Anyways that's my rant...sorry

Agree, not to mention our society at large.

Not for nothing but I do believe every kid should be given a stick FIRST. I was, but I grew up on a farm and my first vehicle (and i use that term lightly since I only got to drive it on the weekends) was a 1 ton ford with a hideous custom made bed by our family (Think sheets of metal welded together....

Buying your first car and being given one are completely different things. That being said I still think 16 is too young for any sports car (just cuse I'm vengeful)

I wish people cared just a little more.. spoiled brat! Sorry for the guy that dates her... Shoot, I do not put pocessions over life, but our stewardship with our items is a reflection of ourselves. Meaning, Care for my stuff as I care for it. You treat your stuff like junk, you will never touch mine. My past two girlfriends could not drive or use my things too often. I had to teach them to care for theirs first.

People say things like Wow, your stuff is so nice, your care is so clean, your clothes are so nice and ironed, you smell so good, etc... Yours can be the same way if you just take care of it! They want new cares, but trash them and dont want them any longer. New/Old, I will still care for it...

J03K1LLARX8 04-24-2010 12:43 AM

Wow this makes me want to punch babies as Atilla would say. :lol2:

Silvergun 04-24-2010 05:16 AM

Im only 24 myself. Shoot, My 98 626 is a champ! I can drive it in the rain, commute, save gas, drive people around, etc. I try to do all the work and keep it clean. I still try to keep it away from others on the parking lot. I appreciate that car. I perfected driving a stick in that car. Old or new, I dont want JUNK if I can help it at all. My pasts girlfriends can sure find ways to tear up a car... It is almost funny! I am like, Im driving. You know, Ive tried to take their cars under my wing but once out of my care it is scary! Coffee, dog, people, dust, smoke... NO ONE GETS MY CARS. I open doors for people when they enter my cars, YOU WILL NOT DING THE DOORS. I try to be a gentleman, but I realy dont want a door to come between us :) My brother has had 3 cars within the last 3 years. Just because he wanted and upgrade. His girlfriends tore up the carpet in 2 of the 3 cars... And says that is not her! She is from Germany and has very little driving experience... I told him that he needs to get her a beater when she moves to the states. She is hard on stuff when she visits. She does not appreciate a thing and has an excuse why she should not when confronted...

Mazda N3 04-24-2010 07:51 PM

wow i thought i was a young 8 owner!!!

Wig92 04-24-2010 08:18 PM

ugh, same thing around here in dfw. its sad kids dont appreciate what their parents give them or even have the courtesy to take care of them.

i drove my dads 2000 honda civic for a year before i could muster up cash enough for an 8, im gonna do the same for my kids. it was a good "training wheel" car and when i finally got an 8... phew! :yesnod:

nx04 04-24-2010 09:17 PM

my first car was the 8 at about 17 , and i see kids dinging there parents vans suv all the time , this one rich girl at my school her parents bought her a mustang and she would allways back up into the same garbage can everyday and not care , or she was totaly delerious

i dont know what it is with rich people and there "i dont give a fuck attitudes"

Maybe you get it now... ;)

coryhasrx8 04-25-2010 12:12 AM

Reminds me of one of those neglected pets commercials.. where they ask for donations. Except its an rx8 instead of a puppy.

mike[piston eater] 04-25-2010 01:04 AM

i know this experience, 2 of my brothers friends friends in highschool, both bought 8s cause they liked mine when i would pick him up from practice, one is cool he bought an 04 winning blue, but he babies that car and asks me questions and does research on his car he doesnt go on the forum cause hes busy being smart lol, the other otherone fails miserably, he got an 07 new when he got it he got the sorry base model auto, he on the other hand proceeded to rice his 8 ;[ he has autozone fogs, he bothered to powdercoat the 16s white :[ and he thinks hes hard revving his shit in neutral and dropping it into drive to burn out, god i wish he would die lol

not to put down our beloved rx8's, but i think a vette at 16 and an rx8 at 16 are a bit different IMO If your going to go the sports car route for a first car, i think its a great choice. I know i personally have learned ALOT from the car itself as well as my driving because of all the potential it has, easy to work on and learn from, and not to mention this forum.

AhadV 04-25-2010 01:46 AM

if your gonna buy a sports car at 16 then what better car than an 8...
other than gas being impractical
its a 4 seater
has enough room for school stuff
has a practical insurance charge
is easy to control
and gets all the attention you need
it has just the right amount of power and is fun to own
excellent crash safety as well..

if your going to get a sports car at 16 then why settle for anything less
a used 8 is not the least bit outrageous...
IMO its one of the best if not the best choice. not every 16 year old deserves a shitty sedan or a ford truck..

How is a vette any dif than an 8 at 16? A vette has more power and is completely more impractical from a money standpoint. I dont know of many if any 16 yr olds that deserve a sportscar. You'd have to have been a saint growing up, and then have the maturity level of a 30 yr old and EVEN then they arent going to have the road experaince that a 30yr old does.

mike[piston eater] 04-25-2010 11:13 AM

i like that motorcycle analogy, then again if my kid asked for a motorcycle i would not give it to him cause it would probably the last gify i give him o.0

which is why i think the FIRST car shouldnt be anything close to a sports car, then maybe move on to a nicer car later. so you are a bit more mature and more of an experienced driver. obviously you wont have the road experience of a 30 yr old, but if your parents feel you can handle it and perhaps you pay for part of it (what i did), then i say go for it.

WTBRotary! 04-26-2010 02:03 PM

Obviously someone at the age of 30 that has been driving since the age of 16 will have more seat time driving then someone who just turned 16 BUT just because that 30 year old has seat time doesn't make them a good driver by ANY means. I know you've seen people on the highway that are older and can't drive worth a shit, like my mom. I'm only 17 but I can out drive my mom easily. Some people think their good at driving when their not. Age helps but isn't the only thing to consider when talking about skill in regards of driving or anything for that matter. Child prodigee's come to mind??? God given talent also comes into play.

Therefore seat time DOES help (practice makes perfect) but that doesn't make a driver good. If you try hard enough and put your mind to it you can overcome and beat older drivers. You see this happen often...
