Karting would be pretty fun if costs could be kept in check

Forest road "cruise" could be fun too.

Hello my name is Justin and I'm new to Texas so I don't know the area very well, but I would be down for a meet!

Have you guys ever been to MSR Karting down at MSR Houston? (I know a couple of us have)

I might be able to get us a smal discount too.

We will choose the October weekend event at the meeting on Tuesday. See you then.

So the local forum consens is that we need to do the Northwest Run. I think that's a great run, but is best run after the Texas Renniasance Festival is done for the season.

Two options popup on the 7Club one for a Dyno Day and the other for a Beach run. I recommend doing a dyno day in tandem with a Thanksgiving cookout. Everyone brings their best holiday eats and we rent out a dyno for the day. A couple of other requests were made for either a Galveston or (better yet) a Freeport run. I agree the Freeport run is a little better because it frequents more backroads and generally keeps us out of trouble,

The 8Club guys entered the idea of karting either at Track21 or as another recommendations MSR Karting. I might be able to get us a group discount if we can confirm enough people who would participate. We've done karting events and the past and they are always a blast.

So think about some of the options here and we will talk about them on Tuesday. Personally, the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd is the only one I can feasibly manage anything, I'm out of town the other weekends or working. However if you guys decide the event must be on the 29th weekend I will support it fully.

It's not exactly a weekend thing, but if you have an itch to get your car on a real track there is always the Red Meat & Race Fuel event at MSR Houston.

(from MSR Houston)

Join us for Red Meat and Race Fuel October 13th to celebrate speed and good food. The schedule will be the same as usual, with open lapping and racecar sessions alternating before the bracket race. Dinner will follow the bracket race.

Check below for more information or give us a call: 281-369-0677. Please RSVP by Tuesday, October 11th, so we can get a count for food. It's very important to get a head count on food by Tuesday afternoon. If you don't RSVP in time, we cannot guarantee you will have a plate.

SCHEDULE
2:30 p.m.- Registration opens
3 p.m.- Open Lapping
3:30 p.m.- Racecar practice
4 p.m.- Open Lapping
4:30 p.m.- Racecar practice
5 p.m.- Open Lapping
6 p.m.- Racecar bracket race
6:30 p.m.- Dinner

Whether you have a street car or a racecar, put your car on our track. The track goes green at 3 p.m. for visitors, so get in on the action. Stay for the bracket race and eat some dinner afterward.

At the meeting Tuesday we had several points of view shared. I introduced several of the ideas presented on the three primary forums we are active on and the results were mixed at best. There were a few who wanted to do a drive, but there was no clear consensus on where to drive too. Karting had relatively poor response from the meeting attendees, the idea of a dyno day was only of interest to a couple of individuals.

What was agreed by many is that it doesn’t matter what we do, as long as we do something together. What draws our club together isn’t the things we do, it’s just doing it as a group. It was decided that we should just work our way back into the weekend events series one step at a time. This time we do lunch, next time we do something else and so on. It was also agreed upon that if there were enough people who showed up (at the meeting) in interest of a drive we could roll out en masse after the meeting to points unknown. I know several drives within an hour of Houston that are a bunch of fun. Several of the regular meeting attendees aren’t sure about the status of their ride, this of course puts a drive in a very precarious light.

So here are the plans… (for now)

Where: Burger Guys - 12225 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077 (Look for the Shipley’s Donut sign)
When: Saturday October 22nd 2011 Parking lot at 2pm – Dinner at 3pm – additional events pending.
What: Gourmet Burgers and Dogs -- Possible cruise or ?? after lunch, pending interest by attendees

I’ve spoken to the owner and we have access to the parking lot and are welcome to fill it up with cars. So feel free to bring your friends if you like. If you haven’t heard of Burger Guys, they are a gourmet burger joint here in town that exclusively serve a form of Kobe beef (known as Waygu). Single burgers are about $8. They are also going to develop a little something special for our event, so bring your adventurous taste buds with you and we will see you there!
