looks good...now lets get everyone in town!!!

Dalas already has an existing Rotay club that has been active for years.

They get together almost weekly. There info and members can be found here. Having a split club makes no sence at all. If you are not already you should coordinate events with them.

We know they have a club, but it's actually an RX-7 club. We are coordinating with them and they're being very cool about the whole thing. A few of them invited us to join them on their drives on wednesday nights. I'm going to try to go this week myself and I know 2 others are, minimum.

From there, we'll see what happens.

It's really the same thing.

I am not at all trying to start trouble here so please don't take it as such. I only want to share my experiences in the hopes of helping.

The Houston club has traditionally been the RX-7 club of Houston. That is how it was before the RX-8 came out. The Houston club has transformed nicely into a "rotary" club since the release of the eight. Unfortunately we can't use the word "rotary" because it conjures up images of another type of social organization. The RX-8's of Houston are a welcome sight to the local club and as of the last two meets have made up about half of the participants.

The seven club has traditionally been open to all rotary powered vehicles (there are many different types that have been made in the past), and a combined club makes for a stronger, more knowledgeable group as well as a tighter community as a whole. Dallas has some of the best rotary tuners and shops in the country and it would be a shame to see the rotaries of that city have a "split" club.

I personally am very glad to have the 8's out with us at club meets. I make an effort to make the new owners feel welcome and I assist is any way that I can with performance and rotary knowledge.

The 8 is nothing more then a newer version in the long history of production automobiles that have been equipped with this special drive train.

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

I have posted the question ot the DWF boys in the sister forum. Here is a link.

DrKillJoY 05-18-2004 02:43 PM

here's another .01 cent

.... sensitivities to the 8 crowd in Houston have grown as the 8 members have shown a dedication to the future of the club as a whole... as a group and as individuals we have discussed our own merging and what hte future will bring....

...I beleive that once the time is right there "may be" the creation of a second website, as a point of reference.. ...however the clubs will (I hope) continue life as twins... while not bound to each other, they will share a common focus, direction and style. Sharing events, and resources, is a very important and relevant part of the game.

In fact there have been loose discussions about developing a all Mazda car club, however emotions concerning this are mixed and there is nothing serious in the near future for that option.

I saw the post on the 7 club boards.

http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.ph...hreadid=307451

Here's my response that I posted there for those that don't like to read their boards:

Well, we originally were forming just an rx-8 club, but we figured that we'd have more members being a rotary club. We, being incredibly ignorant and at the same time incredibly energetic, did not realize how large the RX-7 club in dallas was and that they had such a large community. In fact, I didn't even know a club existed until i found the dfw-rx7 boards.

We have no desire to split up an existing club which is why we'll be attending one of their wednesday night meets to talk with them.

I also don't want to be guilty of absorbing them or competing with them so whatever decision is made about the club is gonna have to be made pretty soon at one of those meetings.

The idea to start a new club was that of a few of us and the interest was large enough at our first meeting that we thought we'd go ahead. I don't believe anyone at the first RX-8 club meeting has owned an RX-7 so it's pretty obvious where our ignorance came from.

When I did find the DFW-RX7 site it was pretty dead, but we already had the road-club site in the works. Like I said, I don't want to build any animosity between the 2 camps of car owners and I really feel that we should be one camp that is very large, very happy, very excited and very event driven. I think the RX-8 is the motivation that maybe the RX-7 club of DFW needed to get moving again and if it means we end up joining their club as they're pre-established, then that is what we do.

The new faces from the RX-8 camp will certainly bring some energy to the rotary driven club, which I'm sure we've already shown with the steps we've made so far.

I guess the decision will be made when I get in touch with the RX-7 guys this wednesday. So far though, those who I have talked to have been really cool people and very welcoming to us.

I hope that clears everything up.

Jon

and that is why i think we should unite under road-club...one less place to look...while i realize the rx7 guys may not like that...hey if i had to change i wouldn't either, but at least then it is not car specific short of the rotary requirement... my 0.02...

Ajax 05-18-2004 04:16 PM

see, i'm not about to say we should all go this way or that way. I want to talk to the guys first and see what their sense of the whole thing is. They were here first and unless we remain completely seperate, or have totally different ideals, i don't think we really have a right to dictate who should go where.

Personally, i'd love that to happen, but it may not be the right thing for the current situation. We may not be the same kind of people that they are and we may have totally different ideals.

I am a seven guy and I think its a great idea, I think y'all are on the right track.

TheGreatRenesis 05-19-2004 03:03 PM

Looks like things are getting tricky, but everyone looks to be cooperative. It also looks like just as we respect their legacy here in Dallas, they respect our desire to get the ball rolling on meets, member, etc...

Are we meeting up tonight still? There was something tonight wasn't there? Much easier to talk in person.

Ajax 05-19-2004 03:25 PM

Yes, they're meeting at Cheddars on 635 at mcarthur and then going to do the airport drive then end at hooters on belt line. I currently don't know if i can make it as we're incredibly busy at work today and I dont know if I'll get out of the office anytime tonight (the way it looks at least).

At least, that's the last I heard.
They posted on our boards and on the rx-7 club boards.

TheGreatRenesis 05-19-2004 03:59 PM

Haha cool I'll play emissary tonight. lol.

Ajax 05-19-2004 04:10 PM

As long as we have someone over there who can convey a message of peace, love and happiness while I secretly manufacture weapons of mass destruction to bomb our enemies under the guise of a rotary owners club....

oh wait.. they can read this board.... F***!

TheGreatRenesis 05-19-2004 04:10 PM

Quick! Hide ze weapons in Syria!

Gigolo Jason 05-20-2004 09:07 AM

How did the meeting go TGR?

liqiud 05-20-2004 10:42 AM

the weapons were deployed...the rx7 club is no more...

HAHAHA...i have no idea what i am talking about.

Watch your tongue Insolent swine

j/k;)

TheGreatRenesis 05-20-2004 03:21 PM

We met at Cheddars about 8 and hung around til 9 waiting on some people to show up.

Got to see a handful of RX-7's, but only 4 of us (all together) ended up going to Hooters afterward for $1 beer... some of the others seperated off with some (15) drifting guys that showed up in a whole bunch of different cars.

We briefly discussed planning something big, but much further in advance, which I think sounds like a great idea.

Great, just plan to keep the events happening and give everyone two weeks notice.

John Paradise 05-25-2004 09:17 AM

I had only seen about 15 to 20 in Dallas in three months of driving around and looking for them. Well this morning, after getting my 8 three days ago, I pull on the toll road in Plano and see two of them. A silver, a red, and my Ti Grey, all with in a few hundred yards, on the same stretch of the toll road, at about 7:15am this morning. I was behind them and I don't know if they even saw me, was it any of you guys?
