OEM shock blown, d-specs or mazdaspeed?
Alright, driverside rear shock blown. I have 2 options right now. Mazdaspeed shocks for ~$400, or tokico Dspecs for $540? Thoughts?
I would like the adjustability of the tokico's but not really sure I would use them that much. I feel like it's one of those 'it's more so it's better' kind of moments for me. I have tein s-techs which are lower and different spring rates than mazdaspeed springs so the shock isn't matched up with the spring for that combo... The MS shocks are local and i can have them by next weekend for sure, and the tokico's are THM's so that would be a week or so. I want to be ready for the Texas 8! I'm ordering one or the other by Monday, any thoughts or opinions? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocvSZC3OQxc |

The koni's aren't available at the price point I'm looking at. THmotorsports sold-out of the ones they had at that price point. So those aren't even an option.

Throw some D's on that Bitch....

I have a low mileage set of Sport factory shocks with springs, mounts, etc all assembled and ready to install, give me some cash and your used stuff and just swap them out. ALl of it has only 5k miles maybe. You get fresh everything.

Thanks for the offer, man but I wanted to go with a bit stiffer of a setup. Have an opinion On either of the other two choices?
|
I have D-specs and love them!
|
i may have my konis up for sale really soon like in 1 1/2 weeks pm if interested
|
d specs will be the one
|
Love my mazdaspeed setup, but I bet the d-specs would go better with your s-techs.
|
D-spec, lets you adjust on the car. If you ever want to track, drive to track at a comfy 7, turn the knobs to 2, run like hell, turn the knobs, drive home at a comfy 7.
I have my with H-Tech. No idea on the stiffer S-Tech, but should be fine. |
wrong here, cant be any different of a choice.

Just trying to give you a cheap out, but Konis if you want the best performance and DSpecs if having an adjuster to turn up or down makes you warm and fuzzy

@juikster, those look cool. Hopefully there is a way to get to the top of the rear shocks. That is what the D-Spec adjuster cable is for. The top of the shock on an 8 is best reached with a hole saw from the rear fender. Second best route is to take the darn things out, fiddle with them, and re-install. A very real driver for the D-Specs was the rear adjuster cables.
@OP Main reason I went adjustable was my DD is also an occasional DE track car. If you are just going to street the car, easy adjust-ability is not that big a driver. |
I run d-specs and s-techs. I love the d-specs. I've had them for 2.5 yrs with no problems. I can't say the same for my s-techs
|
What were the Koni's going to run you? I've been loving mine for a long time now.
|
Well I tried to get in on that $489 shipped deal, but they are back ordered now. I bought the D-specs this morning from THMotorsports.
