Nascar Weekend
 

Anyone going to be out at Texas Motor Speedway for Nascar this weekend? I will be there with family and friends. We can't wait it's going to be a blast!!!

:shudders: Nascar... I believe that most people here will agree that real race cars have working windshield wipers, lights (not stickers) and rear view mirrors.

I have the sudden urge to go outside, get in my car, and make left turns in the cul-de-sac for the next 3 hours.

Real race cars don't need those parts because they add weight, besides they don't race in the rain and at night the track is fully lit. Going left for 4 hours straight at 200mph inches apart from each other is intense. Most people that I find don't like Nascar have never even been to a race. I'll be there and drinking me beer well before sunrise, it's going to be a good day.

Actually most people that don't like NASCAR don't go because they don't like it! I don't go to drag races, tractor pulls, or redneck clan meetings for much the same reason.

good racing is good racing. was at the indy race at miami last weekend. the indy cars just turned left!!! and it was very good racing.

bonus the grand am cars were there.. it is the perfect day of racing..

They add weight??? If a car can do 200mph, would 20 lbs of equipment make a difference? It doesn't on Daytona Prototype cars racing in the Rolex series. The reason they don't race in the rain is because of the high banks and significant amount of wedges on the right side these cars use. A wet track would send these cars into the wall. Granted exciting for the first couple of wrecks... but the fans soon get board with it. Rear view mirrors... don't need them, with inches to spare spotters are much safer at 200mph., Beside, limiting drivers functions to keep the race safer, fast passed and the fans interested.

200mph inches apart is intense. But the reason they are inches apart is because of the strict regulation enforced upon them to make it "fare" and to keep it interesting to the fans.

IRL is crap too! American open wheel racing is dead. ALMS and F1 are the only things left worth following. Grand AM isn't bad. I really think the prototype cars are ugly though!

hahah NAscar blows big balls!!! That is not racing. Im trying to get tickets to montreal for the f1 series. So excited!!!

heh, still, controlling anything on the ground going 200 mph is crazy, i had no respect untill i kinda played forza and tried the nascar spec cars going 200 mph.. slight mistake and ur either dead or just lost ALOT of speed.

ground coolness, cool air, pebbles on the ground, drafting. there is actually alot to nascar i think if you sit down and think about it.

when to pit, etc... can't really name em all off at the top of my head.

Fuck that....F1 is better as far a racing for

1.they race in the rain
2.I like seeing heavy braking duals, turning to the left and right
3.pits are strategic, they don't all pit at the same time.
4.19,000 rpm!!

Having 30 cars drive at 180 mph next to each other is no different than all the people that drive at 80 on the freeway next to each other. The outcome is always the same. At some point there's going to be a wreck!

i'm not a nascar fan at all, but my friend has an extra ticket and invited me so why not? its free for me. :)

i'd be more impressed with drift if there wasnt all the hype. half the people i know define drifting as doing donuts and driving like an asshole. its so convoluted its lost all appeal. to the few who actually can, i respect, but its still not appealing.

alms is the old imsa prototypes..

that series was as good as it gets.. sorry if i dont agree with you.. the daytona prototypes are so much closer to the imsa series that the alms..

btw, the best road racing show was the trans am.

also. yep f1 was great back when the drivers controlled the car. last 7 years, and i have watched it all. yawn....

I know Champ Car and Indy merged. Unfortunately the crap series survived with the crap cars and most of the crap tracks. The good series is no more. I should be going to the Houston Grand Prix this month but it conflicts with a freaking oval track race so we get screwed. Just because Indy will turn left and right half the time now doesn't make it cool again. It was cool before the split in the 90's. NASCAR turns both way for a couple of races but that doesn't make those races cool. They aren't.

ALMS is currently the pinnacle of racing when it comes to variety of cars, variety of technology, and variety of tracks.

i will agree on one point. cart was the the only good open wheel series! i can only hope indy or whatever is is going to be called gets better, but i doubt it will.

If you really like racing watch it on TV cause you will get far better coverage of it. Nascar, Indy, Dirt Track who really gives a shit you have to be pretty damn good to do any of it. Plus watching a redneck go flying in the air from a 200mph wreck is just a thing of beauty.
