Mechanic Needed in Houston

I want to get some stuff checked out on my car all my local shops have turned me away because of my rotary

i live by hobby airport but will have no problem driving, just the close tthe better

etzilon 11-30-2011 05:39 PM

S,

I have searched the internet AND this forum up and down and I haven't been able to satisfactorily answer your question. Some of the 'performance' shops may work on suspension, etc... but they all shy away from the power train.

Anyone else? There are 'rotary' shops in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas... None in Houston? Should we start one? :-)

What about Mazmax by 290??

shadycrew31 03-27-2012 11:43 AM

Most of us work on eachothers cars and have mod days.

I'll gladly help you out if you pay for gas and beer. That said I'm sure there's some local peeps who would do the same.

tronicj 03-27-2012 11:51 AM

I've never used them but Maz-max will do everything but rebuild a engine. They will replace one though.

or I have tools and most Saturdays free.....

I'll be getting an Rx-8 soon in the future. Just letting you guys know in case I need help with mods and such (assuming you guys are local) because I know I'm going to need some help since I'm still in the process of learning how a car works in general.

It eats gas like a mother bitch, burns oil just as fast. Has some wicked blind spots.

Comes factory with a super unreliable engine and several other parts that fail quicker then a crackhead in Yale.

Other than that its a dream come true!

Are you talking about the car or the GF?

Blind spots? Where, I do not see them! Set up the SIDE view mirrors properly and most of those are gone.

soupaman93 03-29-2012 04:46 AM

Oh trust me ahaha I'm aware of all of the details, pros AND cons. I've been reading a lot of forums on details about this car, nonstop, on this site 24/7 (exaggerating ahaha) since September of last year :D:

I've almost hit 5 or 7 people that I didn't see due to the a-pillars. Also if the pass seat is up and a person is in it I can see shit out of that side. I never trust side mirrors I always look with my own eyes.

Mine squeaked and it eventually failed with me not being able to shift properly. It lasted a good year squeaking but then gave out. When i removed it it came out in two pieces!:ylsuper:

I'm also new to the Houston area and need some help w/ my 04 rx8, check engine light's coming on and it's not idling the same :-/
I stay in the Cypress area, if anyone knows of a good mechanic or someone that won't rip me off, this would be super helpful!!

First off welcome!

Is your car stock? What have you tried? Are you willing to work on it yourself, or with help?

Lsmrls 05-31-2012 03:25 PM

tronicj 05-31-2012 03:37 PM

I have tools if you need to borrow some.... I am gone most weekends though.

Lsmrls 05-31-2012 04:13 PM

i appreciate it man, but i really don't know much about the rotary engines, this is my first one so i wouldn't know where to begin dx ing my problems

Javii 05-31-2012 04:34 PM

Hi lsmrls, do you have an Android? If you do, do you have $30? You can get a bluetooth OBD-II adapter and purchase Torque in the Google Store. If you can do those 2 then you should be able to read the CEL codes and to log some stuff for us as well, such as AFR, STFT, LTFT, Voltage, etc..

If you don't have both of these but are willing to come up north to Spring I'll give you a hand.

Lsmrls 05-31-2012 04:37 PM

I have an I phone but sure would be willing to go to Spring, that's just down the road for me! Let me know if Sat is a good day to get together (whatever time)

shadycrew31 05-31-2012 04:45 PM

Holy shit just got to autozone and ask to borrow the code reader.
