This morning I am driving up Broadway in Alamo Heights and SNAP went the clutch pedal bracket. I am back at home and removed it. Will take up to the muffler shop and have it re-welded and reinforced...

Isn't this a very big safety hazard?
I mean not only for safety of others and your self but the safety of your transmission.

What if your switching to 3rd and your clutch snaps off and you cant shift into neutral?

way to go, that shit should snap again

Jedi54 09-14-2009 03:59 PM

not the prettiest welding job but it should hold up nicely.

Juansito: this is a HUGE safety issue! In NYCGPS's clutch snapping thread, there is a way to report it to the National Highway Safety people. (I forget the actual name of the organization)

Hey Mike, I have been putting this off but I will be doing it this weekend. Was it a bitch to get out?

Riley Craven 09-16-2009 04:36 PM

Mike, props for being innovative and getting it re-welded!

Kevo 09-16-2009 05:11 PM

Good job Mike! :)

Pretty easy to get out as long as it's not broke, putting it back in is a we bit harder, but still easy. Sorry to hear about your clutch pedal bracket corn. Make sure to file a complaint with NHTSA so this problem can hopefully be fixed before it takes someone getting killed for them to do something.

Have you thought about grinding down those welds a little with a rotary tool? I would and then respray paint it. If it was my car I would worry a bit about my shoelaces getting stuck or cutting my hand when reaching around the pedal. I could not be more then thirty Minutes of extra prep before reinstalling it.

9krpmrx8 09-16-2009 08:32 PM

I may tackle this this weekend.

hoss -05 09-16-2009 08:45 PM

Let me know what day and if you need a hand I have all day free on Sunday.... at least until the game comes on.

9krpmrx8 09-16-2009 09:20 PM

Cool I may need a ride to get it welded.

hoss -05 09-16-2009 09:42 PM

Hey my pleasure! Ill bring my rotary tool so we can clean up any extra slag. When are we dong the SHON adaptor?

:lol2:

The clutch pedal assembly is prone to failure, even with factory clutches, around 45K-47K miles. Heavier pressure plates accelerate this weakness.

Jon316G 09-16-2009 09:50 PM

^Are you jealous you didn't think of welding it Charles :rollingla

Nah, I am just insecure about BHR's future and must draw attention to myself, MM, Easy_E1, and Flashwing as often as I can. Remember, Jon, I am not merely a "drama queen", I am a "drama biotch". All of us at BHR are! :lol2:

Seriously, I simply think it important to remind people who they are that actually pioneer certain mods so others know where to go when they want actual, tangible, problems solved. Much of the time BHR gives away the "solution" as opposed to trying to develop another pathetic stream of income solving non-problems.

I think most people here know that... no worries. ;)
BHR FTW

alz0rz 09-16-2009 11:07 PM

Did you report this to the NHTSA?

you got a full size of that pic you could PM? :naughty:

My clutch pedal has been squeaking for a while now so I've been thinking about doing this. I just tried searching a little but couldn't find anything to concise. I know the main purpose of it is, of course, to add support and eliminate some of the play in the pedal, but are there any other noticeable differences such as overall feel of the pedal?
