Hail Damage-Any Suggestions?
 

So hail hit pretty hard in the Mid-Cities/Dallas area last night-anyone have any suggestions/advice on hail damage repairs? Shattered back windshield, about twenty-thirty dents, and some destroyed siding/trim.

I was thinking just go through insurance with the windshield because the comprehensive coverage is usually just a $50 cost or something...but then with all the body damage too, I'm wondering now. That deductible is $500...is it even possible to get that fixed for less? Anyone know a good dependable place?

how bad is the body damage?
If it's just minor, you could always try pulling the dents?
If not, I'd pay the deductible...

Body damage is mostly just dents, but they are all over the car, about an inch in diameter. The plastic trim along the top of the car separating the doors from the roof is destroyed, kinda hanging off. Mostly it is the back windshield, it is shattered, hanging down into the car. MUST be replaced. Didn't realize the coverage thru insurance had such a high deductible-$500. So...basically lookin' for a good place to get it fixed quickly, cheaply.

Also, is back windshield more expensive than front? I'm thinking maybe so since it has the defroster in it.

Oh and about the dents...pulling them? Um...that sounds self-explanatory but can you give details?

Google paintless dent repair, and find someone who does it in your area. A lot of the 8's body is made from aluminum so dents are made easy. I had a specialist remove a lot of them on my hood made from acorns that dropped off of trees when parked at work, cost around $200 but was worth it. Unless the dent is huge, I would have a specialist look into it otherwise you'll waste your money.

If the dents are quite large, then you could get away with those dent removal tools you see advertised that use a suction cup like tool along with glue to remove it.

Okay thank you... any info on the back windshield? It is beyond repair, it needs full replacement. :/ Suck.

And actually, I shoulda specified it is my sister's Mazda 6, not an 8...sorry.

Basically, from what you guys are telling me, I'm thinking it would be cheapest just to pay the $500 deductible and get the new windshield and the dents taken out all at once. If it is going to be a few hundred for the dents and a few hundred for the windshield, may as well get it all taken care of at once and just pay the one time...

You stated it's shattered....there is no fix for that other than the fix being a new windshield..

Right. That's why I said a few times it needs to be replaced. The body damage needs to be repaired, but yes, the windshield needs to be replaced. Totally replaced. I'm just making a ton of phone calls, getting quotes. Thanks guys.

A tornado ripped through where I live (Highland Park) and while my cars survived with only a couple scratches, my neighbors mazda 6 didn't. His car recieved 7K in damages. Another neighbors convertable had a tree break in half and punch a hole through the canvas roof causing all kinds of water damage inside. The lady that lives across from me had her back doors (french doors) completely shattered. Damage is everywhere and lots of it. An apartment complex up the road had this large tree next to the exit of its parking garage. That tree was ripped from the ground and fell over blocking the garage. No one could get in or out until the city used a crane to move it.

I would say you got off really really lucky with that 500 dollar deductable. Although I really hope they get it all fixed back to new for you.

Oh yeah, could be way worse. I just felt bad because she was at my apt. and she would not have had any damage had she been at her own. Plus she got a few holes in through her window and not a single other car had any glass damage. Too weird.

were the windows tinted? saw some interesting resutls on tint vs no tint last hail storm. tinted windows would crack but stay together where as the non tint windows just shattered to bits.

Same goes true for when they punch it out to break in to it.

Slightly tinted, yes, but she had about ten holes where the hail just smashed right thru. Her rear speakers do not work anymore. Suck. The rest of it stayed together, just shattered, but because it stayed together, the entire piece of glass came unsealed from the edges and the entire right half was sagging into her car.
