Speaking of females with 8's my lady friend wants me to teach her how to drive a stick on my 8. I am avoiding it like crazy but it keeps coming up...what do I do?

Why, what are you concerned about?

Simple, go to Rent-a-Wreck and rent something with a standard. Teach her how to drive it and when she has the hang of it, put her in your 8 for a trip around the block only. Then take it away from her and drive to the dealership and help her pick out a color.

Just tell her if she is going to wreck it, total it! Not really. I guess it all depends on how "good" of a friend she is.

Well I am 5 years into the relationship with this girl. My main concern is that she is going to wear it out learning on it. I know she will pick it up fast enough however if I hear those gears grind I will be very tempted to slap her hand and say,"that's it, get the hell out of the car, and get out of my life!" I will avoid the situation for as long as possible.

Rent a Wreck worked for me.

I just played tag with a Red RX-8 here in South Arlington/Mansfield. It rolled up next to me, let the window down, and there was a woman with blonde hair in the driver's seat. I immediately changed my route to catch up, and give the thumbs up!

It takes quite a bit of abuse to wear something out like that, so I wouldn't worry about it, myself. Grinding gears is a different story, but that's normally not something that new drivers have much of a problem with (different drivers have different issues, of course). It's getting the clutch right that is the big hurdle, and if they've already been driving for some years, it's normally easier for them than for someone who is learning to drive for the first time.

But I can understand your concern about creating hate and discontent between the two of you while trying to teach her. It's not that you can't get along, but teaching someone like that just doesn't work between some people. My brother bought a manual truck last year, and tried to teach his wife, but it just didn't work. It's not like the truck was his baby or anything, it just didn't work. So even if you can find a manual transmission rental car, there might be some issues. When she was out here visiting a few months later, my dad taught her, and in less than two hours, she was driving around the city in his manual car, running errands.

So maybe if you don't feel comfortable teaching her, maybe there is someone you know who is pretty good at something like that?

Hey, I understand where you are coming from. I am very sensitive about my car. NOBODY drives my car. But that's just me. But if it comes down to 5 years of a relationship or your car...well, go with the heart.

Ok, back to the blonde. Arlington you say? I saw one in Carrollton the other day is a silver one. They need to come on out and expose themselves.

There's a lady in my area of town (Houston) who drives a Titanium Gray RX-8, just like mine, sans the sunroof. She smiled at me while her and I were side by side at a stop sign. I waved, she drove off, and I stalled. She was pretty, but I think she was at least 5 years my senior. Aren't there any girls my age who drive rotary :(?

RX8_ML 07-06-2004 12:05 AM

TheGreatRenesis 07-08-2004 02:54 AM

...waiting for synistyr from TX to respond to this thread. I have no clue what color 8 she drives, but she posted her pic once and looked pretty cute.

First Monday I headed to work in my Red RX I pulled on 59 heading south from the Northpark on ramp way the heck up north by Kingwood, I pulled in behind another Red RX. She took the next exit. She was a short haired blonde.

Got her's at the same dealer. Thought she might be going to the dealer, but didn't really see where she went. Had plates so it wasn't a test drive.

I was on 183 heading from ft.worth to dallas and I saw this incredibly good looking brunette. She had a great smile and long flowing hair. Her sunroof was open and her windows were down. I was so distracted by her looks that I can't remember what color her 8 was.
:(
