Drive On Texas Motor Speedway - Laps for Charity is back

Info copied from their site:

Laps for Charity II
Saturday, September 26, 2009

You're the driver when Texas Motor Speedway opens the Speedway to the public for the last time this year. Experience the thrill of driving your car around the 1.5-mile super speedway all to benefit Speedway Children's Charities.

Polish up your special vehicle and come on out to "The Great American Speedway!" on Saturday, September 26th for Laps for Charity presented by Speedway Children's Charities. Take three laps on the Super Speedway behind a pace vehicle for just a $30 donation and have your picture taken in Victory Lane for an additional $10 donation. Laps will be conducted for Car Clubs (by reservation) from 5-7 p.m. and for the General Public from 7-10 p.m. The fan favorite, VIP package will also be made available for a $250 donation. The VIP package will include a five-lap session, complimentary event t-shirt, complimentary photograph in Victory Lane, a two week trial membership to The Speedway Club and dinner for two on September 26th in The Speedway Club Starlight Dining Room. There will only be a limited number of the VIP packages offered, so call (817) 215-8421 today to book your reservations.

Laps for Charity GENERAL RULE

* NO ALCOHOL
* All occupants in a car including the driver must wear a seat belt.
* No drivers under the age of 18.
* All occupants must be at least 6 years of age.
* All occupants in a car must sign a waiver.
* All legal guardians of minors must sign a separate waiver.
* Motorcyclists must wear a helmet and must stay on the apron of the track.
* No passing.
* Single file only. (please give us 1 lap to get up to speed)
* 75 mph maximum speed limit (if you cannot keep up with the car in front of you, please pull to the apron and the TMS trail vehicles will put you at the back of the line.)
* Follow the instructions of the TMS trucks on the track.
* If any vehicle in the group violates any of the safety procedures listed, the pace car will pull to the apron and bring the entire group to a stop. The violator will be pulled from the group and escorted from the track.

From experience I can tell you all it's a blast! Other RX8 members have been out to and can comment on it. There will be plenty of incredible cars to look at while there. They don't check your car so if it's not street legal I don't they care, plus they definitely go over 75mph. They have a video posted on site of a corvette doing about 95 so.... If there's enough interest we can get a club spot and all go together. Here's the link:

laps for charity

I would be interested provided the weather is fine (no rain).

thejew89 09-04-2009 09:30 PM

its so much fun. i did it last year and got my car up to 130 in the turns. i would love to do it again this year but not sure if ill be able to.

JTtheDude 09-05-2009 01:31 PM

They hold 2 each year and I went to the first one they did earlier this year. It rained but they still got you out on the track, we weren't 130 in the turns in the rain but it was still quick. If weather is nice you can push it hard with those banked turns.

so who all is going?

are we going as a group?

JTtheDude 09-17-2009 08:34 PM

I think it would cool to get a group, I'll be there.

NVmyRX-8 09-18-2009 12:55 AM

i'm down for a group too. i saw that kwarner wanted to go on a crusie. maybe we could do that to TMS?

Coming from 121 in Plano I always take this road to the Speed through Flower Mound, once you get out of the city it's got some nice turns but its just a 2 lane road at that point so you have to be careful.

I'll most likely be there- I went last year and loved it

i think i need like a little bit more info on the event though:

do you have to pay $30 each time you wanna go around the track 3 times??

does an "occupant" have to pay too?

any info should be good

thanks

lynnjennifer86 09-19-2009 11:29 AM

Ya not that far for me at all- Rockwall is far! Unless it changed from last year it is 30 for the 3 laps and you can have as many occupants as the car holds

We ran an SCCA Rally last spring with lunchtime laps of the track - there was an SCCA club race so we got about 20 minutes of tracktime. It was supposed to be speed limited but the last 10 minutes was pretty much opened up. We clipped about 115 but didn't want to pass the Ferraris in front of us. They could have easily walked away from the RX8, that was all the faster they felt like going.

Those two statements don't exactly agree with each other, so which is it?

JTtheDude 09-21-2009 03:41 PM

$30/3 laps = 1 set, you can buy as many sets as you have money and ONLY THE DRIVER pays but everyone must sign a waiver before entering the track

The 75MPH rule is not enforced at all, myself plus others here can verify they go over 75 PLUS if you watch the video they post on their own website it's a Vette and you can read the HUD show 95MPH, even when I went and it was raining I hit 90ish.

thejew89 09-21-2009 11:36 PM

the pace car and the front couple of cars will do about 85ish and if you get in the middle or the back of the pack you can just drop back a little and punch it to see how fast you can get up to, the trailing trucks dont really care how fast you go

lynnjennifer86 09-26-2009 02:54 PM

Is everyone gonna be there at 7?
