Does your 8 run hot in the Texas heat?
 

Just curious, today I really noticed that when I drive when it's really hot out (90+) My car seems to run hot. For example, it was about 98 today and I was driving normal, not hard or anything, and when I turned off my car the fan kicked right on and stayed on for a while. It did that all day, every time I stopped.

The funny thing is my temp gauge doesn't show that the engine is getting too hot.
Is this normal with yall too?

Normal on my car. Drove from work to home (about 15 miles @95 degrees) and as soon as I turned the car off the fan kicked on for about 10 minutes. It doesn't do it always but it does happen.

that's normal ,if it doesn't turn on then you should worry.

Why does it need to stay on if the engine is already cool enough?

yea mine does that too but it seems even in my garage after not driving it for a few hrs the hood is still hot.. and the engine is as well.

Got to love rotarys, they run hot!

The fan continuing to run after the car is shut off is completely normal in hot weather, as well as the "heat soak" that happens to the hood after it's been shut off for quite some time.
Rotaries by nature run a bit hotter than piston engines.
Also, the temp gauge in the 8 is more of an indicator rather than a gauge. Kind of like the oil light, it registers the "ohshit" extremes rather than particular ranges or levels.
(personally, I like real gauges much better, but oh well.)

If the fan is still running, the engine isn't "cool enough" yet. It should turn off whenever it reaches that threshold.

How much impact will that be to the battery? Wouldn't running it for 10 mins will drank the battery pretty fast?

I wouldn't think so. I've had my fan run for much longer than 10 min before and I've never had a problem with the battery charge. I'd think the fan was designed to use minimal power since it's used almost all the time.

Normal for me--I just try not to turn up my soundsytem too loud in the middle of the day unless I have the pass through off to let off the heat.
