Does anybody know...?
Is supercharging legal in the state of TX?
And where are we supposed to mount the front license plate? Does porting + super/turbocharging balance out for the purpose of emissions testing? super/turbocharging adversely affects exhaust emissions (though the Renesis is supposed to have a secondary exhaust re-funneled back to the combustion chamber to re-burn unused gas) but porting allows for more air intake so does this end up cancelling out? Imagine porting + supercharging... I believe I can fly... (just kidding) |
I believe the engine is a very tight fit, and thus would be hard to adapt a super/turbo charger onto the car.
At least that's what I read. I think they will increase rotor width for the RX-7 to get upwards of 300 horses, so that they don't have to add a turbocharger. It seems better to me, as there's no better thing than a naturally aspirated throttle response :) Sure you don't get put back in your seats but the response is immediate all over the RPM range, specially in a rotary. |
I'll just wait for the Mazdaspeed version available in a couple more years, I need time to save some loot...
if the 'speed version is anything less than 325hp, I may just go with 6-speed 250hp version, but all the possibilities and experimenting would be fun! |

So with a slight power boost and decent weight loss, there would be a great deal more speed to the car. I think that is the way Mazda will go instead of just upping the displacement a great deal. Probably increase rotor width a few mm, and get upwards of 300 horses and 200+ lb/ft of torque, so that car should fly :) I'm sure they will also make suspension adjustments as well. |

damn you beat me sputnik. i had to register so i could give an answer. yea you can supercharge. we have 2 supercharged preludes in the club.
sputnik, is there going to be a rx8 club of dallas or anything? because i would like to meet up etc and get a ride in one of these cars if possible. please let me know. thanks, |
I'm sure that there will be at least an informal club in the DFW area. Heck, with Boowana and others in town, there should be a strong core of enthusiasts around here.

have you guys thought about working out something with the existing RX-7 Club there...
I am in the process of developing a structure for the Houston Club to change to a new format enveloping both platforms and accepting all future rotary or sportscar platforms. |
i've been highly envolved in the rxx7 club in dfw...and i think it would be a great idea for all the new rotory owners to come and join us..we have a few non rotory people that hangout with us as well...including a turbo mazda mp3...a miata or 2....a vette and a 240sx...were pretty much like a huge family...cant wait till i can run my seven up next to an rx8..lots of fun
