DFW Austin trip on 4/22: LUNCH on the lake @ 1PM

How about lunch at the Oasis instead of PTP???

http://www.oasis-austin.com/

The foods ok, but the view is GREAT!!!!

Another place would be Aunt Tillys at Yacht Harbor Marina where I have my boat.

This is right on the water rather on the hills.

We can plan on being there at 1pm for lunch.

Who is up for which place?

Oasis.

Oasis, what time is good? 11 or 12?

I already posted that we could arrive at 1pm.

We could take a little drive before if we coordinate well, such as on 360, 2244, etc to get there.

Sweet, all updated.

I would like to suggest this route since everyone is coming from the downtown area. Take MoPac to 2222 (twisties), pass 360, pass 620, onto Bullick Hollow. Turn left on Oasis Bluff then you will hit the Oasis.

After being bloated from the food we can head back on Comanche Trail and hit the back road that end up at Lime Creek. I would suggest to everyone that will be driving these winding road to DO NOT CROSS THE CENTER LINE DIVIDERS due to blind spot from oncoming traffic.

If that Saturday turns out to be a nice day, expect a long wait due to the crowd. I would suggest making a reservation.

For those that don't want to go to the Oasis, there are other great places around downtown: My suggestions
El Arroyo - Mexican - Cheap - outdoor - hug parking area - I would suggest the El Federales
(Taco+Enchiladas+Tostadas+bean+beer) - yes beer is included in the price $8-$9avg

Huts - Hamburger - park along the street - $5-$6avg

Salt Licks - BBQ - BYOB - All you can eat - It's about 45 min drive from Austin. Make sure to starve yourself all day to get your money's worth - $16 for the feast of death

There's too many to chose. I depends on what you want.

Parmer8, I was going to suggest the Volente / Lime Creek route. Very good ride. But, you are correct on the center line thing. Blind spots galore.

There's County Line BBQ right on 2222 as well, Oasis is cool and all but there is Iguana Grill right down the road, plus Carlos & Charlie's. maybe we should do a poll? (huh huh poll)

weininaustin 04-14-2005 10:08 AM

Austin Citysearch rated the places as follows.....

The Oasis - 9.0
Iguana Grill - 8.9
Carlos & Charlies - 8.7

Anyone still want to vote? If so, cast it now, because I need to make the reservations.

Personally, I had Carlos & Charlies and the food was absolutely awful and the view was less than nice, it's right on the water and not above the hills overlooking the lake for a grand view.

I'm leaving this decision up to the locals since I haven't been to any these places before; however, I would like to eat somewhere that has a variety of food to choose from rather than one single cuisine (i.e. Mexican, Italian, etc.) so we can try to please everyone's taste buds. :)

Well I've been here 26 years, never had an issue with Iguana Grill, (come to think of it, never had a problem with Carlos & Charlies either but oh well) the only down side to them is their parking lot, the food/view is awesome though. I'm not too picky either way, there's also Shade's which is kind of a neat place, but it too is right on the water and more of a boater hang out as opposed to a cool place to check out the view etc., although the catfish are pretty entertaining (and hugemongous). Oasis is fine by me, just wanted to throw out more locations in case someone had a preference. Iguana does lean more towards mexican, (enchiladas muy yummy!) so oasis might be a better place for variety. I use www.austin360.com, so far all their recommendations have been on target, but then again taste is subjective :)
