Did anyone else notice that at the Dallas Car Show all the buzz and crowds were at Ford and not at GM. Everyone was looking at the GT and the new Mustang. The GTO seemed to have few lookers.

Also did you notice that MAZDA had the WORST location? - Way in the far back corner. Even though the location was bad, crowds were still seen scoping out the RX-8 and the 3!

I didn't get to make it. Did anyone get some pics they would like to share?

The Ford GT - That was the car of the show for both my friend and I. I've seen the ads and some pictures, and while it looks good in those, in person the car is almost breathtaking. In general I have no love for American cars but that car could make almost anyone excited about Ford in general.

New Mustang, we eventually passed it by as it was literally mobbed and neither of us were interested enough to wait around for a close up view.

Where was the C6? Dallas has just about got to be the vette capitol of the world and GM doesn’t bring the newest one to the show? Maybe I have over estimated how close they are to production but I had really wanted to see one.

No Elise present either, I haven’t seen one in person yet.

The GTO was less impressive in person than the pictures I’ve seen. While not a milestone in styling in photos it has a bit of an imposing and menacing look. In the flesh it just appears to be a very slightly larger grand-am. Since it was roped off we couldn’t get close enough to see if the interior has improved over the rest of the Pontiac line.

When entering the show you are dumped right into the BMW section as usual. During our escape we did stop for a look at the Z4 since that’s about the only Beemer I haven’t been in yet. The interior was surprisingly… iffy. Center console knobs felt as if they would break off soon and some inside panel materials were pretty cheap feeling. The seat leather was very soft, and while it had a high quality feel, it also felt like it would quickly wear and crease.

S2k: Such a clean design, and would probably be the car I own if I didn’t need just a bit more practicality out of my vehicle. Everyone else that was looking at it seemed most interested by the interior compartments rather than the driving position, shifter, etc. I guess the general public just doesn’t understand that car.

Acura TL A-spec concept: My eyes! For the love god that thing is hideous.

I had a fleeting hope they would drag the IS430 concept over, but no.

STI/EVO: If you wanted to fight your way through gangs of mostly Asian teens both were there. Ignoring any pure performance differences I’d give the nod to the Sooby for build quality and a much likely better depreciation rate. My roommate just got out of his Eclipse Spyder, and wow, the trade-in value of it was scary.

Didn’t even go to the Mazda section as I’ve seen as much of them as I really need :), their floor location sure was awful though.
