Clear Side Lights & TX Inspections

I went digging through the Texas statutes (found here http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/statutes.html ) to try and figure out what color the side lights are required to be since I intend to replace the amber side lights with clear ones ASAP.

I was wrong. Buried much deeper is the classic "Side markers must display and reflect amber" damn.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawer (IANAL).

Thanx for the info!

Personally, I'd go for the clear markers. Your first inspection won't be due for 2 years. If you fail the inspection, it's easy to swap back the amber markers. I'd be really surprised if the inspectors even noticed the clear markers.

I intend to do just that. Though, I'll go ahead and buy amber "stealth" bulbs.

I have clearmarkers with the stealth bulbs, thats what you need...look under user "brothervoodoo", his signature has some links.

you could buy some amber reflective tape, stick it on for inspection.

Side marker lamps are not part of the annual inspection for passenger cars. See this page for the list of what's inspected on various classes of vehicle, and the inspection requirements for those items.

That's where I got the idea ;)

Though, I couldn't really see from the pictures the change you get by removing the reflector from inside.

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=10379 This will show you what it looks like with reflector in...pretty bad!

I was reading the OK statutes and it looks like OK allows white or amber side lights. It also says you can't install any muffler/exhaust that's louder than the original the car came with. I'm no lawyer, though.

kinda off topic, but here's the TX DPS site on clear rear lights and red bulbs. :D
